Horrendous zipper but the rest of it is PERFECT
Major internal struggle with this one, i had to order it twice to get the right size, thats fine. This one fits perfectly and its so warm and perfect and really did a good job BUT the zipper is horrendous, it takes me a good 5-10 minutes to zip and i have to zip it and then put it on its the only way it functions. I want to send it back BUT i don't want to send it back bc if it werent for the dang zipper this coats would be perfect. Also disappointed that its now another $20 cheaper a few days after i bought it bc with the crap zipper i dont think its worth $100 maybe like $60

Bad zipper
Cute coat but bad zipper. I struggled to get it zipped, as did two other people.

Good design, bad quality
The quality of the coat is not good. It is warm, but there are several loose strings all over. The zipper I can tell is already going to go quick, as the first two times I tried it on I could barely get it zipped. I guess I cannot complain too much for the price.

Good coat for the price!
I really like this coat. The material feels fairly durable and the coat feels very lightweight on. The pockets and ribbed cuffs around the sleeves make it practical. I am 5'7", 170 and the XL was a little too big, even with a puffer underneath. The length was great. This is not the warmest coat but it's warm enough with correct layering. I cannot speak to the zipper durability, they do not look particularly well-made but they've worked for me. It's a little tough to zip up, but there is a learning curve for double zippers. For the price I think its a no brainer.

I love this coat. It is lightweight but is so warm and protects my legs. Hay just falls off of it while feeding.

Super Warm Coat
I bought this at the end of last year but didn't really use it until this year. So glad that I did! So warm to ride in on cold and windy days when its snowing outside. Just got a second one for my mom and everyone at my barn is ordering them now too.

A really great idea
I’ve had this for about a month now. I love the idea of having a long puffy coat that also can be used for riding. I think it’s brilliant to have it be able to unzip to form a sort of skirt around the rider. Just like on the other piper cost I have, I have had issues with the zipper. Not being able to start it and not being able to undo it very easily. I’ve had to resort to zipping it down and then pulling it over my head to get it off. I love that there are so many pockets. It’s pretty warm and I love the hood. The buttons at the bottom come undone really easily if you take bigger than normal steps, maybe this could be zipper all the way somehow? I like to use it for chores in the morning because it keeps my legs warm but the buttons come undone very easily at the bottom. It works decent while riding, it definitely keeps you warm, I did have the issue of it sliding under my bum while posting. Maybe other people don’t have this issue but for time the extra fabric would get pulled forward and when I would land in the saddle for each post beat, the slippery fabric from the coat would be under there. It’s perfectly fine for sitting trot, walk and canter though. I have not tried it while jumping. I am really glad I bought it and it’s nice to wear out and about.

Lovely coat - except for the zipper
This is the third time I've purchased one of these coats. The first one was over a year ago for my daughter, and the zipper was difficult, but over time, it got better. I purchased a second one for myself and the zipper was impossible. Returned that one, got another, and same issue. Its just a bad design overall. I wish they would fix this issue because the coat itself is nice and comfortable, but utterly useless without the zipper.

I live in this coat
I love this coat so much that in the winter months I practically live in it. Keeps my legs warm, tons of pockets, I can ride in it. I've had to stitch the armpit 2x so I'd say order a size larger than normal as the arms are a bit snug. For reference mine is a size small, which is what I wear in most tops/coats, except the piper sunshirts I wear an xs. I've had this coat nearly 3 years now and would not be a happy camper without it during the long Buffalo winters.

What a bummer -this can't be SmartPak?
I've been an avid SmartPak customer for years and never have had a negative word to say- this is the first and a terrible purchase. The zipper is a disaster right out of the package. Literally one trip out for chores and it's failing. The whole design generally feels cheap. With all the prior reviews, this must have been sourced differently,

So disappointed -- zipper doesn't work on day 1!
This coat is very nice, lightweight and appears perfect for layering in the very cold weather. I purchased this for myself and liked the idea that I could also ride in it with the vents unzipped. It looks great on, but the zipper would not work after the first time I unzipped it out of the original packaging. I read other reviews and hoped that I would not have the same "bad zipper" experience, but sadly that was not the case. At this price point I do expect the zipper to work on day 1. Returning my gift to me :(

A bit disappointing
I really tried like to this coat. It’s a great length and I haven’t had issues with the zipper. My mare is rehabbing and we will spend most of winter just tack walking. I couldn’t really do much more than walk in it as it’s quite long.
My issues are that the seams are already fraying and the cuffs in the sleeves are pilling. The stretch cuffs are really warm and comfortable but attract so much dirt and they’re Pilling badly. I’ve only had it a week and I’m having these issues. I’m not sure it’ll hold up much longer. Maybe I just got a lemon?
It’s warm and comfortable but not very sturdy. I really wanted it to be perfect and it’s almost there.

Very warm and a great deal!
This is so lightweight but shockingly warm! It’s not yet the dead of winter (30s), and I’ve had to take this off while riding, lol. It’s very well-made, with lots of pockets and venting, and a beautiful colour!

The Wrong Bits and Pieces
According to the size guide I was a Small; the coat arrived and unfortunately the sleeves were about 5" too short (for us long-armed and long-legged riders) and the body of the coat was a size or two too large. Returned and am still on the quest for the right riding coat!

Wonky sizing
I read the reviews about odd size of this coat but took a chance anyway, and ended up returning.
I ordered a large, as that was the largest in stock, ignored the reviews that said to order up. Im 5’ 6” and weight 150 lbs. I’m currently wearing a large in most clothing. Coats tend to be snug in the hip area as I have a “ mature “ build. This coat was very generous in the hip/waist area and with the two way zipper and zippers to allow saddle room, it was very roomy from the waist down. The upper part was very tight, with no wiggle room. No shoulder room, no articulation room in back or elbows and sleeves came half way up for arms with arms extended. It was too tight to layer, and not warm enough for seriously cold days. The price was great, around $60, so I really wanted to like it, but because the upper part is so snug I don’t think I could even have used it to replace my antique llbean “down bathrobe” I throw on over my pajamas for cold morning feeding.
I’ll wait for the improved version. Smart Pak issued a fast credit.

I like thinsulate
Lightweight coat with good features. I sent it back because it was pretty long on me. I didn’t think it was too flattering and it would have felt cumbersome around the barn. It did offer great coverage.

Love love love
I wish I had bought this sooner! This has been my game changer this winter. We’ve had a rough winter in PA.
A lot of reviews said the arm length was too short for them. I am 5’4 and on the petite side so for me it is the perfect length.
I have gotten the most compliments on this coat. I ordered it in Green because it was on sale and everyone loves it!
I can ride in it without feeling bulky, my legs are toasty warm and it washes well!
Super pleased with this coat.

Very warm and comfortable!!
Bought this jacket to wear as I am a Florida girl now living in Tennessee. I ABSOLUTELY love this jacket! It’s very warm! Fits to the body but allows movement in the arms and waist/hips to comfortably ride in without getting too bulky! Great for all around barn chores, coaching, and riding! Highly recommend!

GREAT Jacket!
I bought this jacket primarily to walk my dog in the winter months of southeastern PA and it's been AMAZING -I find it to be the perfect warmth without the bulk and my movement is not restricted at all. The only thing I can think of that could use improvement is the zipper is difficult and the buttons can unsnap easily.

Good not great
I like this coat. It is warm and I can ride easily in it. Size is tight on my shoulders but baggy in the midsection. I would not be able to do chores in this but works great for riding! The pockets are a very poor design. You can’t use all at once and there are definitely NO zippers as stated in the description. Plus where to keep my phone without it hitting my saddle?! Otherwise I have been warm in the middle of Minnesota winter!

Good length dog walking coat!
The coat just arrived, so I will update this if my views change after wearing it for a while. It is nice and long and the XS has plenty of room for layering - I tried it on top of a long sleeved running shirt AND a bulky hoodie. I'm 5'2 and 105lbs. No issues with the arm length, in fact an inch shorter would have been fine, BUT I can see how taller ladies may find the sleeve length more problematic. The zipper has been fine, it's a bi-directional which can take a minute to get used to. I'm excited to see how this holds up in the elements e.g. rain. It's not the most flattering silhouette, but that's to be expected from this type of overcoat. Great value based on what I've seen so far.

Piper Trainer's Coat-First Impressions
I just got this coat, and can't wait to wear it. I bought a large as I am 38" in the bust and wanted to make sure I could layer under if need be. There is plenty of room for layering, it's not too bulky, and my zipper works fine as long as I have both zippers matched up just right. There was concerns from others about the sleeves. The sleeves can be short-but that is due to the sleeve construction. If you push the sleeves up under the armpits, it feels 'right', but you get massive room in the shoulder, and the sleeves become super short.. If you adjust the fit of the coat the sleeve length is just fine...just be careful when raising arms above your head.. So, it really is weird sleeve construction (Also, the shoulder seam is not at the shoulder joint, but about an inch or so below). Other concerns are about 'popping threads'.. This is a "puffer" style coat, so with all the riding/barn activity, I am expecting a thread or two to pop at some point..

Nice coat but runs very small
I bought this about a month ago and have used it several times. It is light-weight but warm. Today it was 21 degrees and I felt fine with the coat. However, I bought a Large thinking I would be able to wear a heavy sweater under it. Hmmm. I'm 5'4, 120 pounds. This "Large" is tight on me. It fits okay, but there's not much wiggle room. I got the coat on sale, so I'm happy, but if I had paid even close to the normal price, I would have returned it.

Missing parts in description...
I bought this because the description says it has lots of pockets, some zip, some cargo! Ummmm.....2 pockets with snaps and 2 that you would only put your hands in. Very misleading. Quality is ok. Definitely see the snaps on the front tearing thru the fabric with wear. I bought to walk my dogs in the winter and need lots of pockets for keys, phone, etc. CHANGE YOUR DESCRIPTION TO FIT THE COAT.
