Ok not great, bad zipper
I bought this at the end of last season and just had a chance to wear it January of 2022. I have been “stuck” in it with the zipper stuck no short of 4 times. I’m confident that the low quality zipper is going to end up breaking from all the jerking on it to get it open. It’s warm but I have several long equestrian jackets if this type and this is the only one I have every had with a cheap junky zipper. Should have spent the extra few bucks and upgraded your zippers smartpak. They weren’t worth the cost savings.

Not the greatest quality
Only a handful of wears and I’ve already lost a button and there’s a hole in the pocket… not the greatest quality especially for the price… it’s too bad because it does fit nice and it’s warm. I don’t think it’ll last though

Finally warm and not sweating during winter!
This coat fits me great, works really well for riding, and keeps me warm whether in the saddle or not. It keeps me plenty warm while riding that I only need to wear a light moisture-wicking layer underneath. It also breathes well so even if I work up a sweat while riding, I'm dry and cozy warm by the time I finish picking hooves after exiting the indoor arena. I have just two gripes - the double zipper is cheap and actually quite difficult to get seated properly, and it needs at least one more pocket, perhaps on the chest. I ride with my phone in my pocket and would prefer it to be up by my chest instead of down in the tails where it can flap against the saddle a little.

My favorite coat!
I love this coat! It has all the things I like: separate collar from hood, the his can be cinched down, wrist cuffs, super length, nice pockets, and the huge gussets for riding are great. I loved it so much I got another one to wear as my everyday coat! The only suggestion I would make is to put armpit gussets like ski coats have. Riding can be hard work, but it's also cold where I live and I don't want to take my coat off. I little ventilation would be nice. Thank you for this coat and please don't even discontinue it.

Decent jacket, zipper and quality could be better
Bought this jacket to replace another long down jacket. It’s warm, sleeves are long enough for me (I’m tall) and fit is great!
However, the zipper is tough to get lined up to zip and mine has a hole in the bottom of he pocket lining that must not have been sewn all the way. It keeps getting bigger so anything I put in it ends up in the jacket lining.

Fantastic Coat!
I bought this coat for the cold Montana winters and it has not disappointed! I’ve been out to check on my horses in -6 degree weather and it’s kept me warm. I wear this daily to walk the dog, shovel the driveway or do barn chores. I had to originally return the one I got because of a faulty zipper but the replacement is perfect. I got a small (I’m 5’8 145lbs) and it’s perfect for layering and having a tapered look. I can’t wait to ride in this.

Zipper sucks and hood too cmall
But it’s warm and has snaps (that pop open but easy to Re snap) warm and great coverage.
Zipper is hard to start, breaks open, hard to unzip, and too long. Wish it was a regular zipper to my waist so it wouldn’t unzip. And the hood barely covers my head in the snow it’s nice to have hoods project;)
The fabric is nice / durable and it’s warm;)

Nice coat. Crappy zipper
I only had to put it on once to know the zipper and I would never get along. The base doesn't sit in the zipper pull easily and once you've figured that out, then it doesn't stay. Such a shame! I'd read reviews on these in years past and stayed away, but had to spring for it this time because of the pretty blue. The frustration is just not worth it. Nice coat. Crappy zipper. Maybe under $80 it'd be worth it. Could even have a tailor replace it. But even with 20% off I'm returning it. Got a Lands End down coat for the same price on sale at Kohls and it's 5 stars all the way and has decently high side zips!! May not have a riding skirt but this was mostly for ground work anyway. Just change the zipper smartpak!

Best winter jacket around
Looking for a seriously warm and functional winter jacket. Look no further! This jacket is warm, the back zippers allow for total coverage in the saddle, and allow you to share your horses body heat. I’m 5’8 and I’m the saddle it covers down to my knees. This jacket would be improved only with fuzzy lined pockets and leg straps to add stabilization in the saddle at speed. A jacket so good the attached photo made it into a book! The quality of this jacket far surpasses the price. Highly recommend.

Wonderful coat
I bought this coat as a step up from the Piper Training Coat. I wanted something a touch heavier for warmth. This coat met and exceeded my expectations. It’s still thin, but a touch heavier, and a medium fir perfect. I’m 4’11” and 120lbs, plus busty with big shoulders. I have room for 2 thin layers underneath, and I can still move my arms forward without restrictions. I do construction all winter long, and my clothing has to work without failing. This coat passes the test for weather 45* and below. You will need a rain slicker over the coat, if you are in are in heavy rain that lasts all day; only because this coat is water resistant, not water proof. The product description does say this. I live in the Pacific Northwest where the winters are wet and windy. No slicker needed in the snow!

Warm and wind proof!
I live in central Wisconsin. We have lots of very cold and windy days. This is my every day coat. I am very warm and cozy during school drop off in the morning, going to work at night and for the random barn stop. I did have a zipper issue but SmartPak resolved the issue right away!!

Nonstop Warmth
This coat is so warm it's like wearing a blanket. It's great for staying warm doing barn chores, and works great at football games, too. I have gotten so many compliments on the quality and look of this coat.

Great coat!
I bought this coat in blue (great color) about a month ago. I think it runs small - I am 5'7, 132lbs and I ordered a large. I can fit a base layer and a mid layer comfortably under it. Haven't ridden in it yet - excited to try unzip the back and try it out. The cuffs on the sleeves are amazing. I only wish it had an inside pocket. I zippered it and snapped it all the way down and then hopped on the tractor and broke a snap so that's a bummer. (I guess they are hard to fix - you need a snap machine). I got it on sale and I have smart perks so it was super affordable.

Zipper flawed
As a coat I loved it but I could not get the zipper to connect correctly. They sent me another one and I had the same problem plus a snap was missing. I sent them both back. I was so disappointed. If they’d put a different zipper in it would be perfect.

Great stylish warm coat
I have 2 of these coats, one blue and one maroon. They are the warmest, most comfortable coats, flattering and easy to work in. I'm 5'6", 200 lbs and the XL fits perfectly. The only reason for 4 not 5 stars 8s the cheap, very hard to align zipper. SMARTPAK! You consistently use awful zippers on otherwise amazing products. Please upgrade!! The coat is otherwise so great I bought a second one anyway so I have one to wash and one to wear.

When You Need One You Need One
I live in Houston, Texas, so I don't get many opportunities to wear this coat. But when you need one, you need one. This coat keeps you warm and dry, and I love the zippers that make it possible to keep wearing it, even while riding. I got it in the blue. I LOVE the color.

Fits me very well
I got my coat quickly and was soon wearing it for the cold nights. It was longer than I expected, I am 5’ and it reaches down to mid calf! It should be long enough for anyone.

Bad Zipper
I bought one of these and had to return it for a defective zipper. Smartpak sent out a replacement one and it had the exact same zipper issue. Was very disappointed since seemed like a nice coat.

LOVE this coat!
My sweet daughter bought me this coat last winter, and I absolutely LOVE it! Yes, the zipper is a bit hard to align, but it has been fine on my coat. Since I am a wimp in the cold temps (30s and below), this coat has made all the difference! I sized up to a Large so that I can have my layers underneath, if necessary. I have definitely been very thankful to have this coat!!

Love this coat! But
This coat is very warm and works wonderfully for long cold days of teaching and riding. I ordered a M and it fits perfect, I'm 5'7", 130lbs and generally wear a 28 in the pipers for reference. I would love to give it 5 stars however since day 1 the zipper has been hard to get aligned and I can tell that if I'm not careful with it every time it will wear out much quicker than the coat itself.

Love this coat! But zipper troubles
I love this coat! Very comfy, warm and flattering. Kept me warm all through Minnesota’s very harsh winters. My only complaint is the zipper.. After one winter the zipper is broken and no longer stays closed. I wish that it would have last longer as I love the coat!

Functional and WARM!
I bought this coat thinking it was probably overkill for our relatively mild NC winters. But after a couple weeks of use, both at the barn and walking the dog, I think it's a perfect coat! I'm 5'8" with broad shoulders and athletic build, and the L was perfect to wear over a base layer and fleece. (You won't have a perfect fit around the waist, but who cares!) This is ideal for me as I usually take off my top puffy layer to ride - so this coat keeps my whole body including legs warm while tacking up. I have also done hacks out in the coat with the zippers opened and I don't have any issues with the coat bunching below my seat. It spreads out nicely like a riding skirt.

Perfect cold weather coat!
I thought this coat might be overkill for the winter, but its great for the snowy weather.
Took my pony for a spin this weekend and stayed nice and warm. It is very long, almost too long for a petite frame, but I'll make it work :-)

Excellent minus a few small details!
I now own two of these coats. I am 5'8, and have broader shoulders so I measured and sized up, expecting to wear my usual gear under a riding coat; I live in Minnesota and ride outside with no cover/indoor, so I'm usually wearing a base layer, fleece, vest and coat along with ear muffs on my helmet and often, a wool buff pulled up over my nose and mouth or around my neck. We have had a warmer winter, but above 20* I am able to wear this coat with just a base layer or wool shirt, no need for the extra two layers. I add a fleece if its below 20* or this weird humidity where it feels colder.
This coat is very much like other down coats I have bought for city wear, fabric wise, but hasn't yet gotten holes or pulls despite me going right to it for evening chores and morning turnout. It isn't massively puffy, but it is lovely and warm, and I like the hood.
I can see where folks are annoyed with the zipper. I don't have to bend down hugely to get mine zipped (zipper ends mid thigh). You just have to pull both zippers down and hold them down, before starting to zip up. I have similar struggles with any other two way zipper, you get the hang of it after a while! I have washed mine, and did find that one of the rear/bum zipper pulls got twisted despite washing on delicate/cold and drying on the absolute lowest setting, which doesn't impart any noticeable heat to the clothing that I pull out of the dryer. It's annoying to deal with, but the zipper still works.
The only issue I am running into with this coat is that the bum zippers seem to end just a bit too low for me. I did buy an XL and a L, and have the problem with both coats - the L is about as slim as I'd be willing to go for a riding coat (5'8, broader shoulders, a bit heavier than normal at 175, thanks COVID) in case I need to layer. For now I am solving this problem with a belt; I just pull the coat up in the back over the belt until the zipper pulls are at my lower back and have no problems with the coat being sucked under my butt while riding. I am considering trying to alter the coats permanently to get rid of the belt, but am nervous about putting a needle through the fabric, as it does seem a bit delicate and I'd worry if it did get caught on something, it would rip.
Other than being a bit too long (which is easily enough solved), so far I am extremely happy. I have a riding skirt, and this is definitely preferable when riding my always-ends-up-soaked-and-steaming OTTB and I've been wearing it a ton.

Love this coat!
I just bought this, so I do not know how well it will last, but it's basically the perfect coat in my opinion. I love being able to unzip the back for riding or just walking around. There is tons of room to cover your legs and your saddle. It's plenty warm and easy to layer underneath for super frigid days (northern Michigan). The zip pockets, adjustable hood, wrist cuffs, and separate collar are great! I would say that it fits true to size. I bought the emerald on sale and liked it so much I went back to buy another, but am not doing so as the colorful ones are now sold out. Please keep offering this coat, but more colors would be good.
