Why We Love This
As the presence of eggs in the stool typically indicates that all stages of the worm are present in the horse's environment, the new deworming protocol calls for selective deworming that starts with a fecal egg count. SmartPak's Equine Fecal Test Kit allows the two most common eggs to be found in the manure including strongyles (over 95% of the positive samples are positive for strongyles) and roundworm eggs.
The kit includes instructions, a plastic container for the sample, a spoon for getting the sample, a reclosable plastic bag to hold the fecal sample container, and a cotton pad that travels in the reclosable plastic bag to soak up any liquid. Kit also includes a postage-paid return envelope. Simply fill out and tear off the bottom portion of the instruction card to receive your PDF results by email or by U.S. mail if no email address is included. Please note this test is not considered to be accurate in determining the presence of tapeworms or pinworms.
Please allow 7 to 10 days to receive the results of the test.

Fast and effective
I read recently that rotational worming was so 80’s. Savvy horse owners have been relying on fecal testing and treating their horses accordingly instead of rotating the pastes . They results were emailed within a week of sending out samples and suggested sampling again in 3 months . I love this and will continue to treat my horses this way .

I was under the impression the test would specify what type of parasites were tested and which ones came back positive. All it said was strongyles and the load. I wanted to know large or small...

Convenient service
I ordered three kits for my three horses. I was unable to get samples all on the same day so each were mailed separately in the postage paid envelope provided. Two of the sample results came within a week after I had sent each one. The third was a little over a week. Very pleased with this service and I will use it again.

Post office issues for us too
Like other reviewers, only one test of two made it to the lab. Because both tests were mailed together, and others had the same problem, it seems unlikely that the post office would be to blame.

Post office issues
Ordered 4 kits on-line and received 4 with a separate bags and envelopes for each (as expected). I mailed all 4 from the post office on a Tues. I received results from 3 on Fri and they were clear and helpful. I called to inquire about the 4th and they asked me to call the lab directly and inquire. The 4th one had not arrived yet. I got the results from the 4th on Mon. It was negative and other 3 were positive so I'm not sure if it's accurate as the sample was several days older/drier when tested. Either way, all were dewormed with EquiMax. The people at the lab were very nice, but said I should have put all 4 samples in the same mailing envelope. SmartPak should advise people of this on the instructions.

Easy and quick
Just wanted to check on my mare's fecal, rather than a prophylactic does of Ivermectin. I worry about promoting resistance. Of course, this costs more than Ivermectin, but works for us on an occasional basis. I also hit her with an annual tapeworm dose, because those don't shed. Peace of mind.

Nothing but good things to say about this product. Very easy instructions for collecting your sample and sending it off. Results are easy to read and fast.
