Ariat Fit Tips!
Premium full grain leather shaft with perforations make this boot soft to the touch; Gore stretch panel allow for generous fit; Elasticized instep provides more mobility and flex through foot and ankle;  If between calf measurements, opt for smaller calf; V Sport makes a great option for a rider wanting more accommodation through the foot of the boot

Additional Tips & Tricks

  •  Ariat uses the highest quality zippers, coiled YKK #10
  •  “Tall & Tight” is the motto. The zipper should not glide up easily, but it should NOT take you 40 minutes to zip them either
  • Height is correct when you see a “V” behind the knee when you do a slight squat
  •  You can expect a ¼” to a ½” drop in height in tall boots
  •  Heel lifts (or small tack sponge) can be used as an aid during break- in
  • Calf and height measurements change every other foot size on the ½ size.   So, 7.5 and 8 have the same measurements, as do 8.5 and 9

INSIDER EXCLUSIVE : This can work to your advantage! If an 8 slim is too tight and a 8 regular is too loose, then try the 8.5 slim since that will fall between the two calf sizes.

Ariat® V Sport Zip Tall Boot - All Over Black is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 62.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointed I received these boots 3 weeks ago and have worn them about 10 times. I've had several pair of Volants that after a short break in period fit amazing and was sad when they discontinued- I would have bought another pair in a heartbeat if they had been available in my size. The first two weeks with the V Sport the footbed was SUPER tight and made both of my feet fall asleep in the saddle, but I chalked it up to breaking in & stuck it out. However, by my 10th ride the boot- but especially the footbed on the right- has stretched so much that my foot now slips and slides around within the boot when in the saddle. I've worn the same style of socks each time. I only ride 3-4 times a week and don't wear them all day walking around, so I'm surprised by so much stretching so fast to the point of them not being wearable. Disappointed that I can't return them and hoping to find a pair of Volants in my size somewhere.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible zippers These are super comfortable, but the zippers always fall down. I’ve had ariats the better part of the last 30 years, but these boots, due to the zippers, need some work. I don’t recommend if you actually want to get through a dressage test with zippers in place.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My favorite boots EVER! I have ridden in the Ariat V Sports for over 5 years now. They are the most comfortable boots ever and clean up beautifully. The new V Sport II is a bit different, a tad bigger in the footbed, and a little snugger in the calf so you may have to go up a size in the calf. Overall they are my number 1 boots and will continue to wear them always.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No wear-in time, cleans easily I bought these about 2 months ago, and I hit the ground running wearing them 3-4 times weekly for 3-4 hours. There was literally no-wear in time for me! They fit perfectly from the start and never gave me any blisters or pressure points. I added heel lifts until the calf sunk down a little bit (brought my knee up into the right place), but I would do this with almost any boot. They were relatively cool in late August/early September. They look sharp, and I've only had compliments. Like riding in chaps in terms of leg grip, and I wipe them down after every ride (only condition maybe once monthly).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from best riding boot ever! Sporty, very comfortable and fit like a glove. I am now on my second pair. My first pair lasted me a solid 3+ years of very regular wear of riding, mucking, washing, etc. Great all around boot! I already bought my 3rd pair as back up because I'm concerned they will be discontinued.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfortable tall boot I bought these a while back but even now, after months of wearing them, they are the most comfortable tall boot I have ever owned and worn regularly. To insure the zipper moves smoothly, you have to make sure the "achilles guard" (flap of leather to protect the heel area is out of the way when you zip. This is achieved by bending at the ankle while standing and pulling just a little on the leather where the zipper is going up. Then there is no problem of the zipper getting caught on the protector flap. Small effort for a great boot!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A comfortable, stylish boot I'm so glad that the horse world is starting to accept some modernization to our equipment. The sneaker-like footbed, elasticated panels around the ankle and along the zipper, and perforated leather make this a very comfortable boot that performs well in the saddle. I purchased this boot for eventing competitions. I wear them in all three phases. I do not wear them much off the horse, though. These are riding boots, designed for riding - not course walks or stall mucking or clomping through muddy pastures. I find them comfortable to walk in, but I want them to last so I switch to my paddock boots when I'm done riding. I do have a bit of an issue with the zippers not staying up. They slowly work their way down over the course of an hour or so to where they are down past the top snap leather flap. I read that some people add a key ring to the zipper pull and loop the top snap leather flap through the key ring, so I'm going to try that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The BEST boot ever I bought this boot after my Tredstep Donatelo boots broke on the third week. The insole is super supportive and comfortable. More comfortable than my Nike's. I love the perforated leather on the calf. Keeps my legs relatively dry during the summer heat. My feet don't go to sleep in the stirrups like they have with every other pair of boots I've ridden in. Highly recommend!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Such a great purchase! I just got my new Ariat V Sports and I couldn’t be happier. I bought these to replace my trusty Tredsteps, which died after years of service. I was not looking forward to shopping for tall boots because it is SO hard for me to find any that fit my calf properly. I’m a plus sized rider, but I don’t have huge calves—often regularly sized boots like these are too small and plus sized boots are too huge. I got the extra wide in these and they fit like a glove!!! Plus, they are extremely comfortable! The soles are incredibly supportive both for absorbing shock while riding and for standing/walking for extended periods. The leg of these boots is also very supple and felt broken in on first wear. I would definitely recommend trying these out! The price tag made me balk a bit (yeah, I’m cheap) but they were definitely worth the cost. I can’t speak to their durability yet but I’m hopeful.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good every day boot I needed an everyday riding boot as I typically ride 3-5 horses a day and this boot has been perfect for it. On the downside, I noticed that the calf size was a bit looser than my other tall boots from Ariat even though it's the same calf/height/shoe size. Typically when I first buy tall boots and break them, in I can barely zip them up my calf until they're broken in but with the V Sport I was able to zip them up without any issues on the first day. The problem now is that they've stretched a bit and have a few wrinkles in the leather; however it doesn't impact my riding and is purely cosmetic. I've also noticed that the leather is very soft along the inner calf (which may contribute to how much they've stretched) and I am worried that down the road this boot will tear more easily than my other Ariats. Other than this, I really have no other complaints. They're lightweight, good looking, fit well around the ankle with good amount of flexibility, decently priced, and they barely took any time to break in. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for an everyday boot or something to school in, but I wouldn't recommend showing in it at rated shows. *For reference I took these pictures after I wore the boots 2 times

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Frustrating! The foot felt wonderful and I’m sure the calf would have fit but there was NO way to zip past the ankle. I don't have fat ankles... and I wore thin socks. Thin sock over skin over bone and the ankles were just too small. Ankle measurements should be given in the product sizing info. Had to be returned.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So comfortable and super grip! I treated myself to these boots as my first pair of grown up nice boots. They fit true to size and require very little breaking in. Even in the southern heat they keep your legs cooler than my half chaps. The grip is wonderful too! Helpful in maintaining leg position.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Spur Rests! I LOVE the spur rests on these boots. Spurs never move when they are in them. Also it took me no time at all to break these in. The first time I rode in them it felt like they weren’t even new.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Most comfortable boots I've owned! I'm not one to normally write reviews, but these boots are that good. Virtually no break in period, right out of the box they are super comfortable. I can see what other reviews have mentioned on fit. They are just a touch loose at the top by my knee, but honestly wouldn't have noticed if I hadn't remembered reading in other reviews. I've only had them for about 2 months so can't speak to durability yet, but so far very happy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from good value I am a dressage rider used to a stiff boot but wanted a schooling boot. very comfy footbed but obviously feels different in calf. I find they are overall comfy to wear. The wide calf fit me well which is surprising as I usually have to be a custom calf.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Just ok. I have had many artist boots and my favorite red and black volants lasted me 16 years before the sole gave out. The quality of these boots are a much cheaper leather. I don’t see them lasting long. On the plus side they fit perfect as always. A great price for fitting like a custom boot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Best Boots I love these boots. Wore them 2 days at work to break in. Hoped on my horse and it was so easy to keep my heel down. Even my trainer noticed the difference. She recommended these boots as she wears them too. I will buy again for sure!
    Date published: 2020-02-21
Rated 5 out of 5 by from happily back to Ariat! I love these boots. The last boots I bought were the contour dress boots and I was sorely disappointed ( the stupid piece of leather that was supposed to protect my ankle from the sock was awful. It traveled around the sides of the boots leaving me with a very sore ankle) I swore off of Ariat, convinced that quality had gone south. I was broken hearted that the company who had made my favorite boots for at least 25 years, (my last favorite dress boot was stolen from the back of my car). So I was forced to explore other boots, and suffered ill fitting, zipper breaking disasters. Finally, while recovering from back surgery, yes from a foolish fall from my horse, I began doing serious research. I came back again and again to this particular boot, and finally ordered it. I was reassured by the newer design with the attached leather protector, and the heavier zipper. I wear a size 8, but I am only 5ft 2in tall so need a short boot, with a regular calf. Ariat does know how to accommodate me without spending a fortune. I got the boots this week end and rode in them the next day. Yes the back of the knee was a bit tall for a short boot, but it has already dropped a bit, so that is not a problem. The regular calf seems tighter than my other pairs, but I could zip it and expect it to loosen with time. The quality and comfort was great. The foot bed could have been a bit softer, say with a memory foam insert, but is was good enough. For what I paid I am delighted. The ankle fits me nicely, and the shape is as custom as I am likely to ever have. Thank you Ariat, for improving your line to meet standards of days past.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My second pair and counting... These are a super comfortable, durable, and practical training boot at an affordable price. Oh, and they break-in super easily. What more could you ask for? I am on to my second pair and really hope Ariat does not ever discontinue them!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally a boot that fits! I have wide calves and have trouble finding a boot that both fits in the calves and doesn’t end up being too big in the ankles. These boots are slimmer in the lower leg while still fitting my calves. They’re super comfy as well.
    Date published: 2020-01-08
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Wish they were perfect. I bit the bullet and ordered a pair full price but couldn't justify keeping them. They fit nicely up to above the calf where there was a gap, not contoured back below the knee. I called customer support and they said it's just a fit issue on a per person basis. If you're thinking about these, it's probably worth a shot since you can return for free.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Lovely boot that hurt my toes. I had to return these lovely boots. The slim fit my skinny legs perfectly and the footbed was super comfortable as are all Ariat boots, but the toes slopes in so much that my toes were painfully squished and it hurt to walk. I couldn’t flatten all my toes inside the boot at all. I was disappointed!
    Date published: 2019-11-15
Rated 3 out of 5 by from I want to like these! I want to like these boots so much, but I’ve had such a hard time getting a pair that fits. I tried a 9.5 wide and it was pretty tight around my calf and then I tried a 9 x-wide and I was swimming in them. I think unfortunately I just need to find a different style and brand. These look like they’re very well made and the shoe bed is very comfortable.
    Date published: 2019-11-13
Rated 4 out of 5 by from If only they fit me!! I honestly fell in love with these boots as soon as I took them out of the box. They are edgy and eye-catching, but not distracting or obnoxious. The leather is beautiful and the boot itself is comfortable. Unfortunately, they just didn’t fit the shape of my leg well and left a sizable gap at the top. A different Ariat style fit me better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from love the grip Bought them about a month ago, loved them the first time I rode in them. So grippy held my leg in position. Very little break in as walking in them. Great use them 5 days a week. Also my calf is a very hard to fit calf/leg.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pleasantly Surprised for the Price, Comfortable I'm 5 feet tall, about 105 lbs, with little skinny bird legs but wide (thought little) feet. The problem I ALWAYS have is finding a boot that is wide enough in the foot while not swimming in the calf or having them be way too tall. If I go up a size to fit my wider foot then the calf width and boot height only gets much worse. I'm a dressage rider and my every day and show boots are De Niros, which actually fit pretty dang well for off the shelf, but there's absolutely no room for anything but a very thin sock in the foot. I live in Western Montana so wearing "summer" boots in the winter is not an option, especially as riding is my profession so I can't grin and bare the cold for a one horse day as I'm in my riding boots many hours a day and it's REALLY cold here in the winter. For the last several years I've worn my very old and beloved Ariat Hunter Dress Boots (which I really wish were still made...) with a rubber gator on the foot and since they'd stretched enough in the foot over all their years of use I could get a wool sock, a toe warmer in, and with winter breeches I was good to go. I also don't really like the "snow boot" effect of most proper winter boots and the Ariat Bromonts are both too tall and way too wide in the calf as their sizing options are limited. Basically, I have never been able to find a proper winter boot that even kind of fits so imagine my horror when the zippers in the old Ariats went for the 79th time and the shoe repair guy said there was no way to get another zipper on them. So the search began for a boot that would be comfortable (read: Ariats in general), provide enough room in the foot for a thick sock, a toe warmer, and still some breathing room/air to not constrict my toes, but also would fit in the other dimensions... And these have delivered! I ordered up a half size from my normal shoe size (to a 7 from a 6.5) to allow for more warm nonsense around my foot, based on other reviewers stating that the calf ran narrow I opted for the regular calf instead of slim even though slim would technically have been the right measurements, and got the short height. They're perfect. If I didn't have a very thick winter breech on and a thick sock, the calf would actually be a bit too big, and it still is to a small degree, but the ankle is definitely quite narrow and "shapely" in this boot, despite the fact that I have very little ankles, so the narrower calf would probably be just a bit too narrow for my needs. I think if you don't have very slim ankles then the calf sizing on this boot could get tricky. I think the foot runs true to size as it's an excellent fit with the thick sock and toe warmer with still a little room, so the usual 6.5 foot would probably be perfect only if I wanted them to fit for summer riding. It seems the toe box is a bit wider than other Ariat boots I've tried, too. The height (at 17", technically too high based on measurements and my other boots) is ideal in that it's a bit too tall and given how the leather in these boots is fairly soft and on the thinner side (versus a traditional rigid/stiff/thick dress boot) I'm sure they'll drop at least 1/4" even though they're snug in the ankle, so maybe the height runs "short". This is DEFINITELY not a legit winter boot in that it's heavily vented and obviously not insulated, but it does have a nice sturdy looking sole that wraps around the foot of the boot. The other plus is that I think they'll still work just fine for the rare occasions that I jump, which is a real uncomfortable bummer when you're in rigid dress boots and you prefer a short jumping length in the stirrup. I've not worn them much yet but they feel like they'll break in very quickly, they're comfortable, and there's nothing about them that is bugging my feet despite my tendency to encounter "Princess and the Pea" issues with riding boots and footwear in general. They look nice, even though I'm used to a front/side zipper versus rear, the zipper itself is quite hardy looking, and there's a nice little extra piece of leather inside the boot that goes up quite high to protect the back of your ankle from the zipper. Totally pleased with the purchase especially given the price since finding good boots that aren't at least several hundred dollars is difficult. How they'll hold up? Dunno. I assume they wouldn't last forever because they are quite soft, and I'm sure they'll end up a bit on the slouchy side since the leather is that type, but for the price I'd be happy to buy them again in a few years' time if they really wore out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ariat, of course. I only buy Ariat boots.Tall boots can be trickier to fit, so had to return the 1st pair. I'm 5'4" and needed short length. Other reviewers correctly stated that regular calf is pretty tight, I ordered wide, which is REALLY wide. But these boots also come in a full calf, which is perfect for me at 138#. LOVE them, no break in period required. Wore them around the house for an hour & rode for 3-3.5 hours without any issues. Very nice looking boot. Highly recommend.
