Horrible snaps & zipper
I have been using these half chaps 3-4 times a week for over a year, hoping the zipper & snaps would get easier to unsnap & zip/unzip. They haven't - I have to use a hoof pick on the snaps & struggle with the zipper each time. The 1st pair I bought I loved but the quality has gone down dramatically.

Perfect for trail riding. I read earlier reviews saying they were too tall. I am 5'5" so ordered the MS and they are perfect.

Love the mesh
The quality seems decent for the price. My only dislike is the large gap at the top. I ordered XL for my wide calves but the top gaps over an inch at the knee. The calf contour doesn't really line up with my calf either, but hopefully they'll drop a little as they wear. The mesh front is helping with these hot, humid days.

Sturdy and well made
I have not ridden hard in these yet, but I already appreciate that they are strong and well-made, and that the snaps top and bottom are easy (an issue with my last pari of half chaps). I got the SS (small short) size . With the European top line they do cut into the backs of my calves when I squat, as my legs are very short. But I don't do a lot of squatting on my horse.

Fits great, snaps are AWFUL.
I bought these because my friend had the original and they were great; airy, easy to zip, easy to snap. These fit me perfectly but the snaps get stuck EVERY SINGLE TIME. To the point where one of my half chaps no longer unsnaps at all and thankfully my foot is small enough to get out of the shoe without totally taking off my half chaps. The snaps are just the worst. And if I were being totally honest with my wish list of a better half chap: more mesh is needed - these aren't nearly as vented as the original ones either, and I can't seem to find any others that have more vents.

bad sizing
You'd think the terrain half chaps would work with terrain shoes.
You'd be wrong. The ankles are way too tight to have anve a chance of working, Even with the calves being too big.
Plus, way way too tall. I am 6 foot, and these half chaps were more like 3/4 chaps. would rub back of knee.
Endurance riders arnt showing in an arena. Make some frigging endurance chaps,
IE shorter and big enough around the ankle to actually work with endurance shoes.

Can't get size right ?!
I ordered a medium, regular calf, and calf fit but the chaps were too tall - even though I'm 5ft 9"? So I ordered the short and the calf is too small even though the calf measurement is the same as the regular one? So I'm sending these back too and not panning to order another size.

Can't zip down over Terrain boots
I tried a medium, a large, and a large short. I was able to zip both larges all the way down. It was a bit of a struggle to get the bottom snap done. However, there was a huge bulge of material at the back of the calf - too big there, but fit everywhere else. The medium fit better in the calf, but I couldn't come even close to getting it zipped all the way down over the Terrain boot (like others have commented - had to stop at the ankle where the boot began. How can Ariat market these as Terrain half chaps when they don't fit with the Terrain boot?
Also, doesn't Ariat realize that people wear spurs? The back of the half chap comes down so low on the heel that it makes it impossible to wear spurs. (This was true regardless of the size I tried.)
I really wanted these to work as they seemed like they'd be very breathable. I found a pair of Ovation synthetic half chaps (that really could pass for leather) for half the price and they fit WAY better. Very disappointed in Ariat's quality. I have been wearing Ariat boots and half chaps for close to 20 years.

After a year of wearing these..
I bought these a year ago and have worn them almost every day. They've held up great. No sliding down, zippers and snaps are still fully functional, no rips or loose stitching. I've worn them with my Ariat Terrains and also with my Ariat Barn Yards. The last 1/2 inch or so can be tight to zip over the boot collars but they work with both. I've washed them using leather wash and hung them to dry without issue. I bought them very snug, to where it was a job to get them zipped the first few wears. They stretched just enough to let them be easy to zip but not so much they slide down. The snaps can be a little tough to snap and unsnap.

Good fit, hard snaps
Used 4 times. Snaps are nail breakers to get undone & brute force to snap. Hope they get easier

Informal looking but effective with Terrain boots
Since my quest for new tall boots has been difficult, I decided to ride for now in my Terrain H20 boots and needed half-chaps that would fit over them. Ariat designed these to do just that. They are comfortable and do the job. They are very snug to zip and snap at first, but loosened up just enough on their own to make that a non issue.

comfortable and cool
Bought these for myself as a mother's day gift. I do a lot of hunter paces and needed something that was more open with venting as opposed to a traditional leather chap. These are perfect for great ventilation and are breaking in nicely. They snap over the Ariat Terrain paddock boots but do run a bit big.

Tough And Comfy
These half chaps are great. I've never worn half chaps before, so they're my first and I've had no problems, other than one of the snaps. I had to wait for my husband to get home and pry it open to get it off. It probably just need to be used and greased a little bit. I wore them this past weekend in a NATRC CTR in New Mexico and it was cold, windy, and snowy one day, and sunny and beautiful the next, and I had no problems with them. They were great at blocking the wind and keeping my calves from freezing the first day, and light and breathable the next day when it was sunny. Not sure how that happened, but it worked and I'm happy. :)

Long Wearing, Comfortable and Rugged
I loved the first version of these chaps and have been waiting in hopes that they go back to the original style which came down lower over the All Terrain boot to give a much more integrated and attractive appearance. In answer to some questions in the reviews: They are extremely comfortable. They are cool but wear like iron and never pile up around your ankles. I hike in mine for tick and bee protection.and the stirrup strap isn't even worn after years and miles of hiking and trail clearing. Mine began tight in the shaft and gradually conformed to the shape of my leg and boot. The zippers are exremely sturdy and it is a major convenience to zip from top to bottom. They fit over the All Terrain boot but not over my All Terrain H2O boot. They outlasted 3 pairs of All Terrain boots which I replace every year and I'm going to keep them going for another year in hopes that Ariat goes back to the original version. Another wish is that they would make this chap to fit over the All Terrain H2O boot! If that's what you are trying to do, go large.

Beautifully made!
Although these great half chaps needed to be exchanged for a smaller size, they are even nicer than I had hoped; and I'm a fan of Ariat. They are beautifully finished and I am confident that they will wear very well.

Terrific half chaps
I'd purchased the Terrain H2o winter paddock boots and wanted a pair of half chaps to wear with them. In reading the reviews I realized these were the only pair that would work with the paddock boots (initially I didn't think to look for a matching pair), so I measured and ordered. The quality is very nice, and the workmanship, particularly the heavy zipper, seem quite good. I've dealt with so many zipper failures with my students' boots and protective vests, a good zipper is a must. The snaps are very tight, and sometimes a bit hard to snap and unsnap, but in time they may seat in. The fit is excellent and makes for a neat appearance paired with the Terrain boots. Riding in them is comfortable and I'd categorize them as moderately protective. I've only ridden in them a handful of times, so I cannot speak to their durability over time. My experience is that the sizing chart and recommendations are accurate. I'd definitely recommend these half chaps. If you buy them I hope you like them as much as I do.

Fit
These chaps are made very well. They are difficult to zip at first but mold to my leg and are easier to zip each time worn. They fit perfectly with Ariet Terrain H2O boots. I am short, these chaps seemed a bit tall at first, but they mold to the leg and after wearing, fit perfectly. I love them.

Convenient, comfortable half chaps
I bought a pair for me and a pair for my husband. I wore the earlier version and was sorry when they discontinued them a few years ago. The new version, the Ariat Terrain II Half Chaps, are even better. They're more stylish and seem even sturdier than the old ones. The snaps are easier to fasten than the old ones, but still hard to unsnap! I throw mine in the washer to clean them, and they hold up just fine. Thank you, Ariat, for updating and bringing them back!

I have only ridden in these once so far. They seem very sturdy and well made. Kinda warm and they run big. I have always worn a SM in ariat chaps but these I had to send back and get one size smaller and they fit well.

Fits over Ariat Camrose winter boots!
I bought these great Ariat Camrose waterproof insulated paddock boots. But regular half chaps wouldn't fit around the thicker top. (They are more like hiking boots.) These Ariat Terrain Chaps really fit the bill. They had enough stretch in them to fit perfectly over my Camrose boots. Plus they fit great. I take a 15 inch high 14 inch calf and the SS fit really well. Just a tiny bit tall but flexible enough that it didn't matter. Also I put the Camrose and Ariat half chaps on and went riding and they were so flexible and worked so well together from the get go. And they look so cute!
