Why We Love This

The Amigo® 1200D Bravo 12 XL Turnout Blanket gives larger horses the benefit of the classic Amigo turnout. It is specifically cut to fit the larger horse and is 20% deeper than other Amigo blankets, offering maximum comfort for bigger builds. Like the other Amigo Bravo blankets, it has a tough 1200 denier outer that is both waterproof and breathable to keep your horse protected from the elements. Plus, it has a shine-enhancing polyester lining that will help keep your horse’s coat looking great through the colder months. Your horse will love the front leg arches that give him more freedom of movement and you’ll love the reflective strips that help keep your horse visible and safe. Additionally, this blanket includes a tail flap to help keep out the wind and rain. Finally, double front surcingle closures, cross-belly surcingles, and a tail cord help keep this blanket securely in place.

Rated 3 out of 5 by BeBe from Want to love it, but doesn’t fit well Bought this blanket in medium weight about 2 months ago, and it’s a wonderful waterproof durable blanket! The only problem is, the sizing. I read blanket reviews and followed SmartPak’s recommendations for blanketing body/breed types, and measured my big guy carefully (with the help of another human) according to the size chart on the page. My boy measured exactly to the specs for an 81, so that’s what I purchased. He’s a 17h DWB with an uphill build, broad shoulders, and upright neck. Sadly, even though this was on the recommended blanket list and is awesome in many ways, the blanket slides back when he moves and gets sort of stuck around his withers/upper shoulders and a bit sideways on his body. Then when he holds his head lower in the rain, it stays stuck on/behind his withers but the front sags and gaps down around his chest and the water just pours in. He ends up soaked all over his front and the blanket is weirdly stuck around his shoulders. Thankfully it hasn’t created any rubs yet and his coat looks good - the rest of him stays totally dry. Otherwise, the quality of the blanket is great, he is rough on it and it’s in excellent shape, no tears or loose hardware (my only complaint is the tail cord - why not a coated one with clips on both ends so it’s easy to detach and clean every day, rather than being a tethered single clip poop-magnet that can’t be removed….? I digress.) I’m not sure I can use the blanket long term because it has to be constantly adjusted and also is not keeping the moisture out, which could end up with mega skin issues from being wet all the time under the blanket. It seems like it’s too BIG for him, but I think a true 81 XL size horse that wears XL everything else should fit into an 81 blanket. There are no notes on the page to size up or down for this specific blanket. I think I could have sized down and it would fit him perfectly, but once I realized there was an issue he had already rolled in the mud with it, so it was unreturnable. Disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Wild_Ophelia_DVM from Perfect for my broodmare! I have a retired Holsteiner broodmare that was IMPOSSIBLE to find a blanket for. Nothing would cover her permanent broodmare belly but this does perfectly! Only thing I wish came standard was the wipe-clean tail cord but I bought one at the same time and it works great.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Rider 13 from Blanket for my Shire mare This is the only blanket I have been able to find that fits my size 84 extra wide and extra tall Shire mare, I hope Horseware Ireland will continue to make these and maybe even in some brighter colours. The but strap was a joke, it needed to be at least three times the length in order for the butt strap to reach around behind her tail, so I had to improvise with a leg strap (hence the four stars instead of 5 stars).
