Product Overview

Replaces key minerals lost in sweat

Dehydration in horses has serious consequences. In order to keep your horse properly hydrated and performing his best, it is essential to supplement his diet with salt. Neither hay, pasture, nor fortified grain contain enough salt (sodium chloride) to meet your horse’s needs, and not all horses can get their requirements from a salt block alone. Feeding a well-balanced electrolyte supplement like SmartLytes can supply the sodium chloride your horse needs, in addition to the other electrolyte minerals that are lost in sweat - potassium, calcium, and magnesium. Supplying these electrolytes will also encourage your horse to drink more water, rebalancing his fluids and helping to ensure proper digestion of feeds.

SmartLytes was carefully formulated to mimic the mineral losses in equine sweat. This cherry-flavored powder is sugar-free and contains trimethylglycine (the osmolyte betaine), to help cells maintain normal fluid levels. What a smart electrolyte!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great! Love it! Now I know my horse is getting exactly what he needs.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from No Change My horse is generally a good drinker, in the field. We can be at a show all day and he'll hardly drink, even when I bring our own water; he'll wait until we get home to drink from the trough. He doesn't drink from his stall buckets either. He loves his salt lick so he's not deficient, was just hoping this would persuade him to drink elsewhere. No such luck. Though it does smell wonderful and he licks the bowl clean.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Would be Great if he Would Eat it I trust all of the smartpak supplement brands, and I have had much success with them! However, my Not-so-picky guy refuses to eat this stuff. It smells great, but he really does eat anything and everything just not this! :( With summer around the corner along with the Texas heat, I'll just have to try an alternative. I'm disappointed but i will continue to us SmartPak's SmartFlex Rehab, SmartTendon, and SmartDigest.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product I bought this in the tub so that I could use it when my horse is worked hard and not have to feed it every day. He definitely drinks a lot more water, that's for sure. So, I would say it is a good investment to make sure my guy is well hydrated and has all his electrolytes. It smells tasty and my horse likes it, but he's not particularly picky.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Product My 3-Day horse refused to eat his bucket when I added electrolyte powder I bought from my local feed store. I tried two different products and no luck. I switched to this product after a recommendation from a friend - success! My gelding licked his bucket clean. Now I can relax and know he is getting what he needs to do his job on the XC course! Thanks Smartpak!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Moderately Picky Eater Did NOT Eat It My boy picked at his food the first few days I tried this and then started turning his nose up completely. I'm sure it's a great product, just can't get my boy to eat it even after trying all the tricks.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Horse is not a fan I purchased these since we moved from a boarding facility that added electrolytes in their food, to a place that didn't have any added electrolytes in their food or water. I was really excited about the value, and I thought the pellets would be easy-peasy since my horse eats pretty much everything. The first day he ate them no problem, mixed with a little bit of feed. That was the last time I could get him to eat them. I've tried mixing with food, hand feeding, moistening them, and adding jello mix as flavouring, but he does not care for them. I can sometimes get him to eat a little bit if I bury them in enough food, but I don't want to feed him that much extra since he gets 2 feeds other than the supplements.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great electrolyte. My picky horse eats the powder with no problem.
Date published: 2013-04-01
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worth the money It is hard to tell if all electrolytes are really replenishing your horse because it is an internal thing, but I will say that my horse loves the taste. The price couldnt be better.
Date published: 2013-03-13
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Horse Doesn't Like It I usually get the SmartLyte pellets, but goofed on the internet order and got the powder instead. My horse does not like the taste of the powder, even if I doctor it up with Karo syrup, chopped apples, and carrots. I'm sure it's a good product, but he won't eat it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far really good! I feed electrolytes all year. Decided to try these to reduce sugar intake & add to his smartpack. He's eating them well, and is a very picky eater. Summer will really tell me more but so far I'm really happy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Horse is drinking plenty of water again! Sudden dips in temperature in my area in winter resulted in my horse not drinking enough. SmartLytes did the trick! Might be a tiny bit more expensive than buying in bulk, but in a boarding barn the convenience is worth it, not to mention that I know my horse got his supplements! (Well, unless the barn help is burying unused supplements in a hole out back, and that sure seems like more work than just giving them to the horses!)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from chuck likes it! used Smartlytes last summer including at pony club champs in july in virginia. chuck stayed well hydrated in the terribly hot and humid weather.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Electrolyte My mare gets free access to her salt block at all times but she still forgets to drink enough water year-round. She loves SmartLytes and keeps herself well hydrated now.
Date published: 2013-02-11
Rated 5 out of 5 by from My horse LOVES it! My horse is not what I would call a picky eater, but he is sometimes finicky about apples and anything apple flavored, but he eats this just fine! This seems to have him drinking more, so it works well too!!
Date published: 2012-12-27
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product for all Seasons Even though I feed salt to my horses, I still also like to add an electrolyte. This one is great for my horses who are not finicky. My picky old man eats the pellets instead. It makes me smile in the mornings because the powder smells like lemonade when I mix it into their beet pulp and feed. This product offers quality ingredients at a low price. You cannot beat that!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Only Electrolyte I use!!! Great product. My picky eaters love the taste! Best product of it's kind on the market, super price!!!!
Date published: 2012-11-10
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Powder much better than Pellets My horse enjoys the taste of the powder more than the pellet form. He wouldn't touch it and the pellets did smell a little funny. Thankfully, he eats the powder right up and I don't have to worry about him getting enough water this winter.
Date published: 2012-11-09
Rated 4 out of 5 by from No Dust Left Over I started giving this to my event mare to help make sure that she had the appropriate electrolytes to sweat correctly. I figured that as with most powered electrolytes there would be some dust left behind in the bottom of her bucket, but not so with this one. She must love the flavor because the bottom of her bucket looks like it's been scrubbed after every feeding.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My horse seems to like the taste. Price is good too!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Seems to help dehydration Had a mare get dehydrated and used this for a short time to help her. Seems to help although not miraculous and price is pretty good. She didn't have any problems eating it either, smells like cherry.
Date published: 2012-10-15
Rated 5 out of 5 by from great product This product has all the ingredients important to an endurance horse during competition. I am going to also purchase the pelleted form to add to feeding.
Date published: 2012-10-09
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Electrolyte Most of my herd ate it no problem. I had 2 horses that I needed to mix it with an oil and then they were fine eating it. It also works to put in water bucket and all the show horses I have done that with drank it just fine. Remember to offer both electrolyte and plain water when horses ar competing so that they drink enough :)
Date published: 2012-10-05
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not tasty enough for my piggy ponies I was shocked when my ponies turned their noses up at their feed after I added SmartLytes. They absolutely refused to eat any part of their grain, and they are usually vacuums at feed time. I mixed it with some Cantering Chef bran mash, and then they had no problem with it. I decided not to continue feeding this since my ponies were pains about eating it, and instead will supplement electrolytes as needed after hard workouts.
Date published: 2012-10-05
Rated 2 out of 5 by from not for pickyeaters I put my two mares on this electrolyte to try too get them to drink when it was so hot but they turned there noses up at it had to soak grain impeded for them to eat it
Date published: 2012-09-27
Rated 5 out of 5 by from SmartLytes Super ez to use/feed - keeps a horse drinking while on the road - a deterrent to colic! Not expensive either!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product! This is our first summer in Houston, Texas (we are from North Dakota) and I was concerned about my horse adjusting to the heat and humidity. I put him on SmartLytes in June and he's doing great! I did start him on the pellets but then switched to the granule. He eats both of them with out a problem. He is a very fussy horse so I was surprised that he was eating the granule. Great product! I also began using OneAC in July because the girl exercising my horse for me said she didn't think he was sweating enough. We saw immediate results with the combination of SmartLytes and OneAC.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good value With a record heat summer in Memphis our vet recommended adding electrolytes for all horses in addition to our regular regiment of free choice salt. Right around that time SmartPak offered a "free smart supplement for a month" deal so I did a quick comparison, saw this supplement had everything I needed. Teddy has been drinking like crazy since he started this supplement which I'm inferring to mean it's working. I went with the power because he eats anything and now that my free month is up I am pleased to have something with such a great price tag.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good, but not for picky eater This seems to be a good product, however, I would not recommend it for a horse who is a little picky about their supplements. I bought the powder for both of my horses, one ate it just fine, but my other horse kept leaving a pile of pure electrolytes at the bottom of his grain feeder. If I mixed it with a little apple cider vinegar (which he loves) to make it stick to his pellets, he turned his nose up to the whole meal, leaving behind everything he normally gobbles up as well. In the past, I fed them each the SmartLytes pellets and there was no problem. I only tried the powder b/c it was cheaper. Next time, I'll go back to the pellets.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from If My Horse Would Eat It... I have an 8 yo OTTB mare who sweats a lot. I put her on electrolytes to help with this especially hot summer we're having. However, she really didn't like the powder form. When dumped in her grain, the powder would blow back at her and she wouldn't eat any of her grain. I tried adding it to her water as well, and she wouldn't drink it. She's not familiar with treats or anything "sweet" so that could be part of the problem. I'm not worried however, because I just switched her to the pellet form. Problem solved! On the other hand, I gave some to my paint gelding and he drained his water bucket in two hours (which he never does). Great product for him.
