Not worth the money
After reading the other reviews, I had great expectations for this product. My daughter's horse gets very antsy when shown indoors. This past weekend we showed, I have him the full tube, throughout the day he was uptight, head up, unable to focus and relax.
Don't waste your money.

Works great.
I have been a fan of Perfect Prep for years, and this product works very well for horses needing a little bit of calming for horse shows

used this on my barrel horse who is 15 and gets extremely antsy and like to take control once we get out there to do our pattern. He was still very forward but this product totally took the edge off and kept him paying attention to me during our run.

Seemed to do the trick this weekend!
After the weather turned cold and he was body clipped he forgot his manners in the showring. A little perfect prep seemed to make him more reasonable and viola he was champion!

Didn't work
I have a 3 year old Shire filly who, after a very bad experience with a farrier, has severe anxiety over having her feet done. I read great reviews & at $20/tube I had high hopes. I followed the instructions, gave her the whole tube & hoped to see a noticeable change in her behavior when our new farrier arrived. I didn't see a change, she was still very skittish & flighty.
The tube is way too big & the plunger too hard to depress. I'm 5'6" but my horse is well over 17hh & though she's easy to "tube" this was next to impossible because I couldn't grasp the tube in any way where I could squeeze to give it to her. Had to have someone hold her head so I could handle the tube with both hands.

actually worked
I didn't think this product would work so I tried it one am before a show and I really didn't see a difference. I don't think I gave it enough time as the show was very ahead of schedule, so I triend it the next show. What a difference it made. I had a hard time keeping him moving on the lunge line. I didn't take his nervousness completly away but it sure did help.

This is a great product
Perfect Prep EQ Extreme Paste is a great product. I use it on wintery days when the wind is making the doors bang in the indoor, or for a horses first show. Keep in mind that it must be warm or it is hard to get out of the container!

Worked Great!
I took my new horse on a trail ride off property for the first time, and he can be a little nervous and spooky. Our ride was perfect! He was very relaxed and even when the horse in our company spooked a few times, he stayed calm. We walked by some "scary" things like guard rails, passing cars, signs, ravines, etc. and he didn't even bat an eye and when we trotted, he still had plenty of pep to his step. I definitely feel this product worked very well for him and gave us both a relaxing first ride out and about. My horse wasn't happy after we gave him the prep, I don't think he liked the taste very much. He was fussy in his stall, but he calmed down after about 15 minutes. I will definitely use this product again.

Happy Juice!
The Throughbred side comes out of my 14 y/o WB/TB gelding when we go to a horse show. My trainer introduced me to this magical "happy juice" at one of our first shows this spring at a new, scary barn. He came out running down the lines in the warm up ring, then bucking and whinnying on the lounge line, but within an hour of giving him Perfect Prep, his head was down and he was loping around the hunter ring like a champ. Won't do a horse show without it any more!!

took the edge off
I bought this to try on my ottb 8 y/o mare. I used a half of a tube each day of the show. Even at half a tube it seemed to take the edge off.

Worked for us!
I gave this to my OTTB when I took him to school at a local show. He can be a tad spooky in new places but is overall a good boy. This product seemed to take the edge off and I was able to focus him faster than normal. I wouldn't expect it to make a "hot" horse calm but it definitely helped my horse to take a deep breathe and focus. He didn't care for the taste but he is super picky.

Didnt do a thing for my pony
I bought this after reading the reviews and speaking with a rep and all sounded good enough to try. I gave a whole tube to my medium gelding who's 8 years old and hasn't been off the property in a while so before riding at a hunter pace I figured it would be a good idea to give him something to take the edge off. A good friend and boarder at my farm also gave a tube to her tb gelding. I'm not sure if it did a thing for him honestly and my friend agreed and felt the same about her gelding. I would be willing to try one of the others and see if they work but this one won't be used again by me.

This really helped my antsy mare!
A friend of mine recommended this product to use with my mare because she gets a little anxious and nervous in new situations. Although it was really messy when I gave it to her it seemed to help her quite a bit! I'll definitely be using it again!

Great Product
My vet recommended Prefect Prep to haul my mare long distance. She loads great but gets extremely nervous on the trailer. She shakes really bad and sweats like crazy. I gave her a tube of the Perfect Prep an hour before loading her. She hated the taste of the product but hauled great! And she had no weird side effects. The price is kinda steep but I'll always have this product on hand

Didn't do a thing...
I purchased two tubes to use on a gelding that is difficult to load, to be used during practice on the day before the trip and the day of the move itself. He is a large Dutch WB/TB, so I gave him the entire tube on the first day.
Pros: Palatability was great, no problems there; it smells delicious, like cake batter
Cons: As the title says, it didn't do a thing. I didn't notice a change in him at all. He was not nervous or worked up at all, just gets stubborn and resistant, so maybe I selected the wrong product, although other reviews stated they noted a change in willingness.
I did not see that change at all, and will not purchase this product again. At over $20 a tube, I expected some kind of change. To be fair, though, I would not buy a competing product for this particular situation again either.

valuable addition to show prep
I have been using Perfect Prep for about a year now with my dressage horse who tends to get anxious at competitions. Although he does not love the taste, he tolerates it fairly well, especially if I warm it up a bit in a bucket of warm water so it loosens up and goes down easier (essential in colder weather, by the way, or you will be wrestling with the syringe with both hands to try to get the product out at all and your horse will not be happy). I think Perfect Prep helps him settle and focus without losing energy. My vet, who competes too, is a big fan.

Less distracted
I have used Perfect Prep Extreme at two horse shows so far and I plan to continue to use it. I show in the hunters and my horse would become easily distracted by things outside of the show ring. When I used the Perfect Prep Extreme he seemed very focused on his job and not what was happening back at the barn. He still had great energy and was not lethargic or dull to the jumps. I would like to use it a few more times before I give it a full 5 stars but so far I am impressed with the results.

I was impressed
New horse rider combination was causing BOTH anxiety. Gave I/2 a tube 90 minutes before the lesson. Horse is an attentive but opinionated and experienced H/J. ( about 900-1000 lb). His new, nervous owner would pull on his face enough that he'd finally just run through her hands. The Perfect Prep eased his irritation enough that he'd not grab back when pulled. This, of course, caused the rider to pull less - and finally, not at all. For the first time, they completed 8 jumps without frustration on either of their parts. Subsequent lessons (without the Perfect Prep) have gone very well. I only gave it 4 stars because I used it just once - but I DID save the other half for their first show together.

Good natural relaxant
Used this product on my big grey to relax him before travel to a week long show. He is normally very calm. But he can get nervous traveling to new stables. Half a tube noticeably relaxed him. The flavor was not bad he took it without any refusal. Gave to him in quarter tube doses hour before travel.

Great new formula
Love the new formula....so much easier to administer. If you are a first time user, you will need to determine how long it takes for your horse to respond to the affects. My mare takes 2 hours so I plan accordingly.

Does the trick, but hard to get down
This stuff was literally a life saver with showing my OTTB. I give him the full 80cc about 2 hours before I need it to work, and it definitely does what it should. He's pretty much unshowable without it. However, its pretty thick and has the most awful smell I've ever encountered. Apparently it tastes pretty bad too since my horse (who sits perfect for dewormer and anything) tries to turn tail and run if he sees it. I have learned, especially in the winter, if you have a hand dryer/blow dryer/ hot water on hand, its easier to use if you warm it up first, otherwise its kind of hard to get out of the tube, particularly when your horse is doing his best to not let it touch him!

We have a new show horse who is learning how to be an equitation horse after recent years as a show jumper. This product is great at the shows to help take the edge off. Just make sure to keep it warm during the winter months or it's really hard to administer.

Can't Show Without It
I have a very nervous OTTB that at shows, is unrideable without this stuff. We tried so many things before we came to this and nothing worked. I give him the full 80cc about an hour and a half before I need to mount and while he's still his typical handful self (it won't change who your horse is), he can focus and do his job and goes around the jumper ring like pro. However, it does smell awful and he absolutely hates it and it takes a lot of work to get all of it down. It is a little pricey but it works and is USEF legal.
