Rated 5 out of 5 by from Only brand my horse will eat I have tried every brand, and my horse would not eat his feed  with the other brands added. We tried adding sweet feed to hide them. Still didn't work. Wow he will eat his feed with the smart sand purge added every time and without any fussing.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not for the picky eater I bought this for my show horse who had turned down all other products I had tried. This was no different, he would not eat it either. I then offered it to my other horse and he ate it right up, he also has been eating the less expensive brands. I would not buy this more expensive product except as an experiment to see if a horse would eat it after refusing less expensive products.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not approved by horses who otherwise eat anything! My horses live to eat - just about anything. When I first put a full pack in with their evening feed, they stuck their noses in and took several steps back looking at me as if they suspected me of poisoning them. So, I followed the steps I generally apply with new supplements, and added just a few pellets to their regular feed several times in a row, and added carrots and apples to make it really tasty. No dice. The only one who did not reject SmartSand Purge was my ancient Paint, who gets large amounts of Senior feed in a bucket and rarely bothers to eat anything off the sandy ground. (Why there is so much sand in the paddock still, is a different story all together. Once you have it brought in, it's difficult to redistribute.) So, now my 5-year old mare and my 14-year old gelding (both easy keepers) get Sandclear instead for a week each month , which they tolerate slightly better and everybody gets Omega Horseshine once a day and Equipride (Vits, Minerals, Digestive Aids) twice a day, plus a few other supplements from SmartPak. They seem to do well on this regimen.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from my horse is a picky eater and would not touch this even when mixed with his favorite grain and goodies. I unfortunately have packets that I cannot use now.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Purchase I love this product for palatability; however, the pellets are too large and sometimes too dry for my one horse. I made a recommendation to the company to manufacture smaller pellets for this product and I used SmartPak's recommendation to coat product with Canola Oil when too dry, but my one horse is insulin resistance and I don't want to always be using Canola Oil. Not sure what I'll do when I need to sand purge again, because this is the only product my horses with take with their ration balancer.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Think it worked? I've only used this product once so far, but I'm going to be doing the monthly 7 day purge for my mini mare who ingested stone dust. I can't say if it was this product, or the wetted hay extender mix, or the fact that after a week of barely eating or drinking she finally starting eating, once I started the extender, the sand purge and horse quenchers in her water the same day. We were discussing surgery once we realized what the problem was. Within 5 days of eating and drinking, her appetite slowly began increasing. My mare finally perked up and is doing much better. I started the product the day she got drenched by the vet and it was off and on for about 4 days before she started to come around. Now with some environmental changes and continued monitoring, she does not need surgery and is eating/drinking like normal. She didn't really like the product alone. She ate it without fuss, but when eating it alone she kept chewing like it was cow cud/stuck in her mouth like peanut butter or something. Once I mixed with the wet hay extender, she had no issues. Chewed a little more then normal, but not overly crazy like the first time. She is an air fern, so she will try and eat almost anything, this may not be the same for others picky eaters.
