Sweat With SmartPak – Episode Two

Welcome back to SmartPak’s Equestrian Exercise mini-series, where SmartPakers Caitlin and Tori demonstrate helpful tips and tricks on workouts you can do at home or at the barn to help you with your everyday riding.

Each episode will focus on exercises that benefit you as a rider a specific exercise and how it can benefit you as a rider. We’ll demonstrate to provide you with proper form for each movement (as well as common mistakes to avoid!). This week’s workout focuses on core strengthening and HIIT (high-intensity interval training) type moves. You’re sure to sweat during and feel great after!

SmartPak’s HIIT & Core Workout

  • 6 min warm up

    30 sec each exercise/repeat 2x

Jog in place

Squat to stand

Jumping jacks

Arm circles

Opposite hand toe touch

Mountain climbers

  • Repeat each exercise 3x then move to the next (30 on / 30 off = 1 set)
  1. Alternating Lunges (30 sec each leg)
    • To increase intensity: switch jumps
  2. Plank jack to bear plank
    • To increase intensity: add in a hop
    • To decrease intensity: step in instead of hop
  3. Pop Squat (s/A touchdown or you can do both!)
    • Jump squats
  4. Jumping Jack
  5. High knees
  6. Speed skaters
    • To decrease intensity: wide step instead
  7. Mountain Climbers side twist
  • 5 min cool down

Walk it out and make sure you stretch your legs and upper body
