Nice quality, but heavy, bulky, and unstable
I have been riding for 40 years, used to work as a trainer in dressage and backing/ starting under saddle. I have used traditional stirrups all that time, held out on getting a sport stirrup. With increasing knee pain and all the positive reviews, I decided to try these.
Pros- well constructed, True to size, I like the foot bed
Cons- NOT lighter than my current standard steel irons, in fact each is 40g heavier! See photos. I was looking for a lightweight aluminum...
While initially I thought I liked the feel under saddle, once I started working I just didn’t like how they sat and felt on my foot - bulky. I tried in all three positions. I have a good dressage seat and I never lose my stirrups, but I lost this one twice in transitions. I also never find my foot too far into the stirrup and with this one I had my foot slip forward up to the heel at one point. Overall it felt bulky and unstable with the two point flexion. If you’re holding stirrups properly in dressage there should be a light contact with foot parallel to the ground and horse, a soft feel. These stirrups didn’t allow me that soft feel, I had to really put more weight in them for them to stabilize. Personal preference I guess. Will return.
Ps- for all those who like the 90° turnout to help with knee pain, the other thing you can do is get very thin, flexible flat leathers that easily turn so there is no torque to turning them out. Having ridden in these stirrups with the 90 degree turn I realize I much prefer the natural lay of the stirrup against the horse’s side, and have no problem finding it again. I guess after 40 years you can’t change your muscle memory of where the stirrup should be.

Just what I needed!!
Had about 6 rides in them so far and knee ankle pain so much better!! Large foot bed easier insertion I bought the 4 3/4 inch. So worth every Penny if you have ankle foot or knee issues!!

Love These Stirrups!
I finally caved and needed some good, reliable stirrups, and these are perfect! These are an amazing upgrade from my regular rubber-soled stirrups that I never knew I needed. I love the wide, non-slip footbed on these to help keep my foot in place. They have also helped with a lot of my knee and ankle pain, I will never go back! These are perfect for any ring and I even use them for trail rides, long and short. The fit is perfect, I have a size 8 boot and the 4 3/4" fit perfectly!! Overall these stirrups are a wonderful addition to my saddle!

I liked it, but…
Great stirrup, but I tried it simultaneously with the free jump air S. Because I needed cushioning for an injured foot, I preferred the free jump air S. If I didn’t need the cushioning, this would have worked great.

Great stirrups to relieve pain
I have bought these stirrups for all my saddles, because they are the only ones that relieve my knee, ankle and hip pain I experience riding for periods of time with other high end stirrups. I have been riding and competing for over 50 years, so finding something that helps me to continue riding is a must! Here's to another 50 years!

Quality stirrup
I have been riding with jointed stirrups and have liked them, but decided to try these. I didn’t realize how much I had been fighting with my old stirrups. These stay effortlessly at the angle I want on my foot and they provide a wider and more comfortable base of support. I wish I had gotten them sooner.

Must Have for Knee and Ankle Pain
I ordered these from Smartpak about 5 years ago - I waited until they were on sale because I was concerned they would be a very expensive gimmick. Background - I was about 30 and having significant knee and ankle pain from about 5 dressage rides/week. After 5 years of consistent use - now about 10 rides/week, I think these things are worth their weight in gold. No knee or ankle pain (I keep them set perpendicular to the leather), and the aluminum foot bed is the best I've used to minimize slipping - cheese grater inserts maybe better but I worry about boot tread destruction and getting stuck in a fall with those. The foot bed flex is nice and firm. Incidentally, I leased a horse and used used his saddle - within a week or two my joint pain was back - switched the stirrups back to these MDC's, pain resolved which reinforced to me how amazing these stirrups are. They have also held up nicely over the years. If you are on the fence, I don't think you'll regret this purchase - I wish I would have bough them sooner!

I have zero pain after all of my rides
I can’t say enough good things about these irons. I use to have ankle and knee pain and it is completely gone. I don’t struggle as much to keep my heels down because I am not in pain. I will purchase these time and time again. Thank you MDC!

Everything I hoped for
I have a handful of rides in with these new stirrups. My hips and knees are less sore, I can ride longer, the leathers don’t pinch my calves and I feel secure. After researching all my options, id have to agree with previous reviewers that these were worth the extra $$. Wish I had a 2nd pair for my other saddle!
