2007: Third at the World Cup CIC3*W at The Fork and completed his first four-star event at Rolex Kentucky. 2006: Finished season with a 2nd place at the Fair Hill International, earning him the United State's Eventing Association's Advanced Reserve Championship. Placed second at the Jersey Fresh*** and qualified for the 2006 World Equestrian Championships.
About Jan Byyny
Riding and eventing for over 30 years, Jan began by taking lessons in Chicago, joined the local Pony Club with her first pony, Lorbus, and represented Area IX as a young rider at the 1985 NAYRC. As a sixteen-year-old, she went east to work and train with Bruce Davidson, and over her career has worked with Ralph Hill, David and Karen O'Connor, Phillip Dutton, Mark Phillips, Betsy Steiner, Robert Dover, and Laura Kraut. She currently trains with Silva Martin, Oded Shimoni, Katie Prudent and Jimmy Wofford, and is coached by Mark Phillips at team training sessions.
Consistently a top-ranked international event rider, Jan specializes in identifying and producing world-class event horses. Her career highlights include representing the U.S. at the Pan American Championships, where she won team gold and individual bronze, competing on U.S. Equestrian teams at Malmo, Sweden and Luhmuhlen, Germany, and being selected as a team alternate for the Athens Olympics. Jan also has numerous top ten placings at Rolex Kentucky, Fairhill International, Foxhall, Jersey Fresh, Bromont and Morven Park Three-Day Events, and has competed at Burghley, Badminton and Blenheim in England.
Jan is also quite active in the United States Eventing Association organization as co-chair of the Young Rider committee, has coached the Area IX Young Rider Championship teams for many years and has presented at numerous USEA year-end conventions. In addition, she is a Level IV ICP (USEA's Instructor Certification Program) instructor and serves on the United States Equestrian Federation's Eventing Technical Committee.
When she isn't training, teaching or competing, Jan relaxes by running, hiking, skiing, playing volleyball, and spending time with her dog, Echo.
