The SmartPak Breakaway Halter with COOLMAX® Padding 2.0 is one smart barn staple! New and improved, it features COOLMAX® padding on the noseband to help keep your horse cool, dry, and comfortable when the temperatures heat up. It also has a leather breakaway feature on the crown that’s designed to break under undue pressure. The crown piece is adjustable, along with the chin strap, giving you the ability to create a great fit for your horse. Plus, this halter also offers a heavy nylon webbed noseband and cheek pieces that are durable and available in a variety of colors to show off your style. Finally, the snap closure at the throatlatch makes it easy to take on and off without having to adjust the crown piece every time.

Nice halter
Bought this to use with a grazing muzzle attached but couldn’t find a muzzle big enough for my horse. This halter does fit my draft very well and I love the cool max inserts.

This halter runs large. I bought one awhile ago for my pony, which fit well, but I had to exchange the two I bought for my two standard size donkeys. Because donkeys have much larger heads than horses, I had ordered a cob size. - Wrong!!! The pony size fits them both very well. I am sooooo glad because it is a FABULOUS halter!

Good looking halter, runs a little large
I bought this halter for my Haflinger as something we can use for groundwork and just walking around. We get a lot of compliments for it and he seems to like it. It runs a tad large, but not excessively so.

Comfortable fit, safe and looks good!
I love this halter for its comfortable fit on my horse, the fact that it’s a breakaway and it looks lovely too! Unfortunately all the metal pieces are sadly not stainless steel so they rust quite quickly.

Great halter
Love this halter! We bought a new horse and he was shipped with halter. We loved it, but it was a little big, so we ordered a cob size. Fits our guy perfectly. Thanks. He’s a thoroughbred so I think the horse size runs a little big.

Odd shape
I bought to put grazing muzzle on it and because of the breakaway strap the “comfort” part of the crown piece doesn’t lay even. Also the size is odd for a cob, my gypsy pony isn’t a large size and it is all the way up on crown and all the way out around nose and I had to make a hole for it not to rub.

Crown piece
There are many features about this halter I find desirable: break away feature, wide noseband, and throat latch clip. My only advise would be to have the crown piece have buckles on both sides. Once I have the halter adjusted correctly, the crown padding does not sit symmetrically over the poll. It would also be handy to have a throat latch clip on both sides so the halter can be put on and taken off easily from either side of the horse and its also handy for grooming.

Great your horse fits the halter
I have 2 Quarter horses. One is 14.5 and the other is 15.5 hands. The larger horse it almost fits with a cob size but my smaller horse it is tight on the nose and very loose on the chin strap. The metal holes to tighten it make it hard to adjust to the proper fit. It almost like if your horse fits the halter, great but you cant fit the halter to your horse.

WHen my facility decided to start leaving halters on for turn out I purchased 2 of these, 1 for a Freisian and 1 for my Welsh X. Both halters were a perfect fit and are proving to be durable and comfortable as my pony manages to wriggle out of every other turn out halter he has worn

Runs large; the grommets make it hard to adjust
I wanted to like this halter-- the padding is nice, but it is way too big even for all three of my horses, and my Appaloosa has a pretty big head. The metal grommets that line the holes make it difficult to adjust, and it's just not an easy halter to get on and off.

Great quality, a touch big
This is a very nice halter, with soft padding that definitely does stay cool. My mare has to wear her halter 24/7 to keep on a nose net, and I was concerned she'd get rubs, but that adding padding would make her too warm/sweaty, so I chose this one. Even on a hot humid day, she had no sweat and the padding was still cool to the touch! My one disappointment is that the horse size is almost too big on my average sized thoroughbred. I have another SmartPak breakaway that is cob sized that is too small for her, so I ordered horse size. It fits her, but on the smallest holes, so there are long "tails" of the straps that hang and have begun to curl up. I need a cob-and-a-half size!
