Nice leather, cob runs a bit small
Wanted a nice, economical bridle for my TB gelding. Liked what I saw when I opened the box. Disappointed when I tried it on, only to find that the cheek pieces were way too short. So back it goes. Also surprised to see that SmartPak has now added an extra charge to returns for increased processing, gas , etc costs. Not what I would have expected from SmartPak. But will still shop at SP, only not for items that might need to returned.

This is an update to the review I left about four months ago (I am the same person as "alberts", but Smartpak's system wouldn't let me edit my prior review or add a second review under the same name). Unfortunately, I also beginning to have issues with the second bridle smartpark shipped. This bridle is stored in a temperature controlled tack room, only used by myself and my trainer (i.e., people who know how to care for bridles and leather), and hasn't even been used for hard training resulting in significant sweating. After this relatively short period of use, the stitching where the monocrown receives the cheekpieces is already coming undone. It's on the inside of the bridle, so it's not visible while being used... but bridle stitching should last for longer than a couple months. It's not like this is a $20 piece of tack from a no-name company.
Rest of the bridle is holding up decently, but this is now the second bridle of this model I have had issues with.

Solid bridle for price
I originally ordered this bridle in a discontinued color (Chestnut) and had issues with what seemed to be glue leaking from every layer, braid, or stitched area of the bridle. SmartPak customer service originally advised that this was a normal waxy "sealant" that would come off as the bridle was used and oiled, but the substance was quite sticky and people just holding my reins for a moment would come away with a sticky handful of the stuff. After six months of it worsening and not improving with cleaning and oiling, SmartPak customer service exchanged my original Harwich bridle for a Harwich in the Walnut color. Such a difference! My trainer can hold my rein without needing to wash her hands after and my gloves are no longer turning colors from the glue.
Now that I don't have to deal the stickiness, I am quite pleased with this bridle. Both bridles arrived fairly soft and flexible and required minimal oiling for use (with the exception of the reins which were a bit stiff on both bridles). Both darkened to lovely shades when oiled. The bridles are a nice solid bridles for the price - both substantive and solid than a super cheap bridle and looks fancy without breaking the bank. After six months of use on both bridles, stitching was still tight and tidy.
I will note that a full size bridle for my TB I have to go down to the second to last hole on the nose band - someone with a particularly fine-faced horse many have issues with the noseband.

Great bridle for staying on budget!
I was initially apprehensive about buying leather from SmartPak but the Harwich turned out to be the happiest surprise! The color is true to the pictures and even after using it three to four times weekly, it looks great. Because it is lighter leather, dirt does tend to visibly pile up behind keepers, buckles, etc but once cleaned with soap it looks good as new. The stitching is beautiful and the length of reins is great.

Most Beautiful Bridle
I absolutely love this bridle on my Saddlebred, Harry! The chestnut color perfectly matches my chestnut-coloured Pessoa Saddle which has been tough for me to match. I also love the padding on the crown and nose piece. This is something that many bridles within this bracket of price lack. The quality of the leather and the softness of it is much better than most bridles within a competitive price. This bridle would be acceptable quality for a hunter/jumper show ring or just a schooling bridle. I haven't had to clean this bridle yet but based on my experience with it so far, I can't imagine it will be an issue for this quality leather and design. Everyone at the barn has been complimenting this new bridle and the color!

Even better than I expected!
I was a little wary of buying this due to some of the other reviews but am so glad I did! It is beautiful and matches my saddle so nicely. It’s hard to find a bridle that is good quality in the color and not too expensive. I can’t speak for usability but it seems like it will last a long time. The leather has a nice feeling and is pretty soft although the reins are just a bit stiff.

Visually Defective
Sadly my new bridle arrived with white specks all over the leather. Basic application of water didn't readily remove the specks. In addition the throat latch was double sided which was not expected. Returned the bridle and will order a different brand due to the white speck quality issue.

Nice bridle but leather isn’t great
I bought this bridle in 2018 after seeing great reviews and loving the design. I know it’s not a high end bridle to begin with, but I was very disappointed in the leather quality for the price point. Leather started flaking and cracking after a few months of use and I stopped using it completely. Great schooling bridle now and I have been using it again and I love the padding, but do not expect it to hold up to shows.

Cheap leather
I am not sure if this is an English thing, but the leather is just so so stiff. It refuses to absorb any oil, as if it has a varnish much like what you see on a lot of Indian made tack. Crown is very nicely padded, it SEEMS durable so far, and the bridle really is gorgeous, but those are the only stars this item gets from me. The reins feel terrible in the hands; you cannot soften the lacing at all, and it remains feeling like new "plastic" leather. I don't know of any other well made tack to take over a year to break in. There are better bridles out there in this price range, and I'm really glad this was a gift and I didn't buy it myself. I have entire custom western rigs that melt in your hands that were purchased at half the price of this. It would probably be okay for open shows, it certainly does look classy, but that is about it.
