Beautiful, just too heavy
The Circle Y JG Peak Performance Monarch Saddle is well made, beautiful, felt like I was the rodeo queen sitting in it but it was just too heavy for me (due to working hard physically for so many years). I would highly recommend it for some one.

Comfortable and Balanced Seat with a Narrow Twist
I give this saddle 5 stars when comparing it to others in this price range (non-custom). (1.) Smart Pak offers the best test-ride program in the industry. You are invited to RIDE in it and check the FIT on your horse. That’s critical. (2.) The saddle delivers on everything stated in its description: comfort, balanced seat, narrow twist, “broken-in” feel out of the box. As soon as I sat in it, I could feel the comfort and the benefit of a narrow twist. This seems to be a plus for female riders, especially ones like me with arthritic hips. I rode hunt seat for years, and this Western saddle is the closest to the hunt seat type that I have ridden in. (3.) There is a lot of gel foam in the seat and the underside of the saddle along the bars. I thought this might be too gimmick-y for me, because I am a senior rider who is used to the traditional Western saddles without any such gel. However, I think that the gel serves its purpose in providing comfort to the rider and the horse. (4.) The leather is Herman Oak and not overly cheap. (5.) The Monarch turned out to be too long in the skirt for my short-backed horse. (6.) Also, as a matter of personal preference, I found the horn to be too high for my taste. (7.) All things considered, this is a wonderful saddle for a female rider. You can feel the difference in the seat and stirrups when compared to other saddles. I felt balanced and was able to sit deeply without hurting my hips and knees at the jog, posting trot, and lope. (8.) In my opinion, this saddle is very suitable for arena work as well as trail riding and showing in the Ranch classes. (9.) I am in my 60’s and have ridden for 50 years in many Western saddle brands, including those by custom saddle makers (Double J, Harris, Victor) and non-custom (Big Horn, Simco, Circle Y, Tucker). In this price range, this saddle delivers as advertised. Thank you Julie Goodnight for designing a saddle that suits women better than others. And thank you Smart Pak Equine for offering a test-ride program that allows customers to “try before they buy.” Saddles are a big investment. As any saddle shopper knows, finding that saddle to fit both horse AND rider is a daunting task. The test-ride program helps immensely.

Beautiful saddle
Unfortunately, it didn't fit my hard-to-fit horse. The only thing I didn't like was that that because of twist in the stirrups, the extra end hangs out by the stirrup rather than tucking up inside. Its an easy fix but could be done better I think.

Very Comfortable and light!
This saddle was super comfortable right out of the box. I have back issues it was comfortable for western dressage work and out on the trail. It was as lightweight as you can get with a leather saddle with a full skirt. The flex tree fit my horse really well and our saddle fitter was really impressed with how it allowed him to move. The adjustable rigging proved more useful than I'd expected. I have a feeling folks used to English saddles would like this saddle more than many other western saddles.
I loved everything about this saddle, except the look, which is just my personal taste, and is admittedly a bit persnickety. The "medium oil" has black latigo strings and leather edges, and the stamped Softee leather, while definitely soft, looked cheap to me. This is personal opinion/impression, and I know most people LOVE theses saddles which is why it's nearly impossible to find on used!
So full disclosure: I did end up returning this saddle as part of the Test Ride program, and I've decided to have a saddle custom made to my specifications, because I can't seem to find the perfect saddle. The Smartpak Test Ride system is AWESOME. Super easy to use and helped me feel really confident in my purchase. I highly recommend it!

Beautiful Saddle!
I recently tried this saddle from Smartpak. It was the most beautiful, well made saddle I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot of saddles. The light oil or natural is gorgeous! The medium didn't fit my horse but I'm hoping a wide tree will fit him. The saddle was comfortable to sit in. I didn't do much riding in it because it was tight in the gullet and I didn't want my horse to get sore. Thanks Smartpak for letting me try such and amazing saddle.

Love this saddle! Best investment!
I really love my saddle. I have all quarter and paint horses, and this saddle fits every one of them perfectly. Circle Y recommended the wide tree for an average quarterhorse normally using a FQHB. It was excellent advice and I couldn't be happier with the fit. Definitely the most comfortable saddle right out of the box! I ordered the Walnut color, which is a beautiful chocolate with burgundy undertones. Very rich in color, and looks great on every color horse. I can't imagine anybody not being happy with this choice. It's an excellent saddle for trails and arena work. It keeps very centered with excellent leg position. Never any discomfort, no matter how many hours I have spent in it. I am still excited every time I saddle up, just love being in this saddle. Makes me want ride day and night :-)
