Reviews
Cashel Fly Leg Guards is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 105.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointed in quality. I bought 3 sets of the orange leg guards and was disappointed in the quality of the stitching. They fit well, but within the first day the stitching on 2 of the guards tore away! The other guards are working well, so I will continue to use them.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from High-vis! They stay on but The high-vis orange is fantastic! Although it isn't needed because smart pony has not figured out how to remove them (yet). They work great for hanging out in the stall or dry lot but fell down scrunched around the fetlocks after a couple of hours of pasture play. We have hills and valleys with trees and heavy shrubs to play in so they are rough on anything. Had hoped these wouldn't turn into ankle donuts like other fly boots but they did, just not as bad.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from They fall down They fall down and start to tear after less than a month of use. Disappointed in these.
Date published: 2020-07-16
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Effective fly boots! I ordered the wamrblood size which fit my 17.2 guy really well. They fall down but even with the lower fit they stay in place and are effective. My horse is beating up the front pair, so not sure how long they will last, I have dealt with this by using strips of duct tape over the velcro and swat on the boots. The blue is a really nice color. I highly recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hands Down Best Leg Guards Purchased 2 pair Cashel Fly Leg guards approx. 1 month ago. Excellent coverage, comfortable for my gelding, easy on/off with well placed Velcro tabs. I recommend Cashel products over all others including their fly mask with ears

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Seemed to work but did split at the seam after about a month of use
Date published: 2020-06-29
Rated 5 out of 5 by from stay up Spend the extra money for these. They stay on without sliding down. Love the bright colors!
Date published: 2020-06-29
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great boots! They really do stop the stop. His left front spins when he rolls, but they totally stay on! Great buy!
Date published: 2020-06-28
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love the fun colors! These fly boots are made well, wash well and stay on but they do bunch down. Next time I'm gonna try a brand that claims not to bunch.
Date published: 2020-06-23
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice They fit like they will not be able to come off. Easy to see.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great construction I always trust SmartPak and Cashel with so many items. However these were not a great fit for my boy. He was changed to night turnout instead of day and I felt I didn't really need him to wear them.
Date published: 2020-05-21
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Look great on my chestnut mare I bought the bright pink fly leg guards and put them on all four legs. My sweet girl thought that meant she was supposed to pick her feet up really high when she walked, hilarious. But, she's getting used to them and the cob size fits great. We'll see how it goes. Just wish they covered more of the leg ie: all the way up to her knee.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from sag a bit, but hold up well I've been using these for a little over a month, and overall, I think they are a fairly good product. They do scrunch down a bit, but only about an inch or two. My horse got a ton of fly bites on her lower forelegs last summer, so many that I would find blood droplets on her hooves. No fly spray provided full-time protection. I have not observed this since she started wearing these boots. She seems comfortable in them, and I don't see her stomping flies when she's wearing them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love these boots!! I've only had these for a few days but they are awesome. I was worried they would fall off if they weren't maintained everyday but after 2 days with no adjustments they are still very secure on my Thoroughbred
Date published: 2020-05-05
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very soft These fit perfectly and look great! Super happy with them.
Date published: 2020-04-27
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fly Boots Love these boots, bought these in a size small for my fine boned Saddlebred mare's front legs. They fit well and have stayed on nicely even with continuous wear. (I do check them daily). They were a little stiff at first but after being worn for a couple of days became very flexible. They give great coverage and wash easily and my pony is happy so I am happy. I also have a pair for my other Saddlebred mare that I purchased 3 years ago and they are holding up nicely, although I did buy a new set for her also this year.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Unhappy The boots I bought were labeled draft but didn’t fit my Belgian at all so I put them on my Percheron who is more warm blood size. They slid down after 2 days and wrinkled and bunched up on her pastern rubbing sores on them which I now have to fight to heal because the flys I was trying to avoid keep chewing on. Total waste of money
Date published: 2020-04-19
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Work great Use these on my easy-on-clothes mare. They work great, stay up, aren’t too hot, and keep the flys up.
Date published: 2020-04-17
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fly wraps I’m so pleased with these fly wraps they do not fall down like some other brands on the market They do come a little small in my mind but they are very good quality
Date published: 2020-04-14
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great fly boots My pony somehow is the major attractant for flies at my barn. These leg guards lasted just over a year with him, which is impressive because he is the "rough and tumble" type. They stayed up, however did twist just a little at the end I believe just from the use put on them. They lasted longer than expected, and kept his legs free from bot eggs, nagging gnats, and regular old flies. I just purchased his second pair. Cashel is a great brand especially in regards to fly protection. The prices are reasonable and I find that their products last longer than competitors.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from They work very well These look intimidating but they do fit on the leg very well and the bottom part has elastic to strech around hoof and allow flexibility while on and wearing - very good
Date published: 2019-10-03
Rated 5 out of 5 by from They stay up! The flies drive my horse crazy, but I have never tried fly boots, because the ones I've seen on the horses at our barn look uncomfortable and inefficient. My trainer suggested I try some, so I checked out what Smartpak carries. I was attracted to the Cashel guards because of the way they are fitted around the hoof & pastern. We always use Cashel fly masks, so I trusted the quality. They are easy to put on & adjust, they stay up, and my horse must find them comfortable because she doesn't even seem to notice that they are on. Yay! I've had them only a month, but durability wise, so far, so good.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Didn't stay put These boots spun around and slid down on my mare....smart pak was really good about returning them
Date published: 2019-09-13
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Hard to figure out the correct size. Slip down over the course of a day when she lays down.
Date published: 2019-08-30
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Work great! My horse has fly allergies, so I am anxious to use anything that alleviates his discomfort. He is also very hard on his clothes, which can make that a challenge. Cashel brand has held up way better than any others I've tried. I was skeptical of the design change when I got these new ones, but they seem to be working well. They don't slouch, are not hot, and haven't caused any irritation even though he wears them 24/7.
Date published: 2019-08-29
Rated 2 out of 5 by from won't stay up for turn-out I like the material and the features, soft edges and good Velcro, however, they do not stay up for turn-out. I bought the warmblood size for my 16.1 gelding who has thicker legs / joints and needs a size bigger than "regular horse" for most leg wraps/boots. They work well for temporary use while grooming or hand-grazing but not for all-day turn out. They end up around his ankles. On the plus side they don't seem to rub or anything but are not doing the job when down around his ankles. and my horse is not crazy in the pasture. I may try to return them.
Date published: 2019-08-20
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product These seem to be good leg guards. They don't make my horse's legs hot, they stay put all day even through the stomping, and they are easy to put on. My only complaint is that the mesh traps all kinds of cheatgrass and stickers in it, which then poke and irritate his legs. It takes a long time to pick them out every evening. This wouldn't be a problem for horses who aren't out in the grasses and weeds like that. But for me, a mesh with smaller holes would be better. Otherwise, though, I like them a lot.
Date published: 2019-08-14
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice leg guards These leg guards work well for my horse. They are easy to put on and take off. The velcro keeps them secure and they do the trick in keeping the flies away.
Date published: 2019-08-03
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Must have for August! Keeps him from constantly stomping his front feet, stays up and lasts about 1 season. I buy horse size for a 14.3 Lusitano and it fits just right.
Date published: 2019-07-30
Rated 4 out of 5 by from All Time Favorite Fly Protection! I've purchase 4 pairs of these leg guards over the last several years. The first two pairs were for my Paso Fino pony who had a recurring hoof crack the stemmed for an old coronary band injury, In the summer, he would stomp his feet incessantly and make the crack so much worse. Once he started wearing his leg guards, we were able to ease his fly frustration and keep his hoof from splitting in the summertime. Even though he was on field board turn out (with access to undulating terrain and a shallow creek), these boots stayed on almost perfectly. I took them off once a day to brush his legs and check for scratches, but aside from that and hosing them off every so often these boots have held up wonderfully. The third pair I bought was for my new OTTB, who I am currently transitioning from shod to barefoot. He has the same aggressive stomping habit, which was putting unnecessary stress on his thin soles. I followed the same procedures, but for some reason, the material and stitching on the third pair did not hold up as well as the first two. I purchased a fourth pair to replace the ones that had frayed, and so far they are proving to be just as durable as the original ones I bought several years ago. I love these leg guards because they are light weight, breathable, and sturdy. The only reason I'm giving them 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the mishap I had with my third pair.
