Loved by my Thoroughbred!
The SmartStride Ultra Pellets are a must-have for my 19-year-old Thoroughbred. King is still comfortable showing and hacking out. I love knowing that I am supporting his joints, tendons and ligaments, and bone! The SmartStride Ultra Pellets combine traditional joint ingredients and newer ingredients, like turmeric, to help support a normal inflammatory response. This supplement is backed by research and my picky eater does not leave any of the pellets behind!

No problems. Hard to know in the short term how it compares with other similar products. I think there’s less waste with the pellet than a powder.

She eats it!
How well it works, I don't know. But I do know that the bowl is licked clean even with this supplement in it and that's saying something.

Not effective for chronic joint issues or injuries
I put my horse on this a few months ago when a lameness associated with a chronic stifle problem arose. She was on SmartFlex at the time she went lame. The injury is though to involve the meniscus and cartilage in the stifle, and now in the hock as well. Unfortunately, this supplement has not made much of a difference even when combined with meds. The next step is arthroscopy. I may keep her on it a little longer to see if it helps after surgery, but as of now I cannot confirm its effectiveness. If it does work, it's not for serious chronic joint problems or injuries. For reference, my horse is young QH, she's only 8. On the plus side, it is palatable and not super expensive.

Huge change
My horse was having trouble with his hocks. Within less than 2 weeks, he wasn’t dragging his hind hooves and had longer strides with both hind legs

Tried it, ultimately switched
I put my 17yo OTTB, who is in consistent work, on SmartStride Ultra for 7-8 months, intrigued by its use of "newer" ingredients/research. It's hard to say how effective it was. He did end up needing some injections (for the first time) during that period. I certainly don't "blame" the supplement for this, I'm just saying there was a lot going on so it's hard to gauge the effect the supplement had, and there wasn't a clear "wow, this is really making a difference" indicator. Ultimately I ended up switching him to SmartFlex Ultimate because I just wasn't confident enough that the SmartStride Ultra was supporting him as well as I would have liked.

Helps With Hock Issue
I have had my gelding for over 2 years now and he has an osteocyte (spur) in his hock which causes lameness when the joint is not lubricated enough. He was being well managed on Pentosan shots + glucosamine 5000 until this past fall. I just took it easy with him thinking it was a flare-up but after a couple months with no improvement I decided to look at other supplements and like how this is specifically for hock health and tendons. I have to say after making NO changes other than this supplement, I noticed improvement and willingness to use the right hock after only about 2 weeks and now at almost 2 months in he is moving sound. I will continue to use this supplement and I have been able to back down his Pentosan shots from every 3 weeks to every 4 weeks with continued soundness. The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is due to price and also it is 2 large scoops which is harder for me since I do not do the individual smartpaks. Additionally, my horse is a picky eater and gobbles this up as well as being IR and this has no additonal sugars so I feel safe feeding it to him.

May Exacerbate GI Issues
Beware that this supplement may exacerbate GI issues, and Smartpak recommends a vet visit before initiating use of this supplement to check for ulcers. This can be found if you view the label, but I missed this when I ordered. My horse had GI upset and was sluggish and lethargic after 2-3 weeks on this. Smartpak customer service is the best and made it right immediately, but I thought other users may want to know about this warning before they purchase.
