Palatable to my horse
I mix smart salt with his supplements. He has no trouble finishing his supp. Not so with another brand of salt that I used.

accsess to salt!
My horse is turned out in a herd wihout access to salt so I feed the SmartSalt pellets twice a day with her grain so she gets salt!

My horse ate it!
I know my Friesian gelding needed more salt in his diet so he would drink more and I wouldn't have to worry about colic. He is a fussy eater and would not eat his grain if I added any amount of salt. There is a money back guarentee so I tried the salt pellets, and I am happy I did because he eats it and I know he drinks more water. Makes me feel better.

Easy way to give controlled salt level
I like the pellets as they are an easy way to make sure a horse gets needed salt. I thought I'd try them over the winter to help make sure my horse drank water as a preventative colic measure. His water intake was better than last winter, but he doesn't care for these pellets and tries to sort them out of his feed or doesn't eat his feed with as must gusto a few weeks on these pellets as he did beforehand. He doesn't like apples and these are suppose to have some apple flavor so that may be the issue. Otherwise, I would continue using these. I do recommend trying these and hopefully your horse likes apples.

Finally a sneaky way to get salt into my horse!!
My horse hates salt- won't touch salt of any kind... And I have tried everything... Red salt, white salt, Himalayan salt, table salt in grain... You get the idea. He gobbles this right up everyday w his regular handful of ration balancer. A great product for balancing the nutritional requirements of a picky easy keeper:)

Horses readily eat it.
I have mini horses that don't drink a lot of water. They have regular salt licks but I can be certain that they are getting salt with the pellets. They have increased their water intake. Highly recommend this product

Overall good product that horses like
I put my horse on SmarSalt about 2 months ago after he stopped sweating. My horse enjoyed the flavor and would even eat it directly out of my hand. He is sweating more now, but I'm not sure how much that has to do with the SmartSalt or the cooler temperatures. Either way, it can't hurt!

Horse did better on Smartlytes
My mare doesn't sweat and I originally had her on Smartlytes but decided to try this instead because since she doesn't sweat, I thought she wouldn't need the other electrolytes replenished and that salt was more important. However, she ended up drinking LESS water than when she did while she was on the Smartlytes and she had a harder time dealing with the heat. During the day she would be panting more heavily (while in her stall with 2 fans on her). I'm not sure if her drinking more water helped her cope with the heat better or if the other electrolytes helped. After a week I decided to switch her back to Smartlytes because we still have 2 more months of summer and I hate seeing her struggle through this Florida heat! I will use Smartlytes and get her a salt block instead. She loved the taste of these pellets and they smelled really good but she just did a lot better on the Smartlytes.

My pony's workload dropped over the winter but I was still concerned about him drinking enough water, especially since the wet weather meant more time in his stall. I switched him from Smartlytes to Smartsalt and he has been drinking fine. He likes the taste, but he isn't too picky so I wasn't really worried about him refusing them. Now that he is going back into hard work I'll probably switch him back to Smartlytes.

Salt pellets
My mare does not tolerate table salt added to her feed and I want her to drink more water in the winter to avoid colic. SmartSalt has been the answer to that problem. I am satisfied with the amount of water intake and she has no problem with eating the pellets(sneaky me!). Thanks for making this product!

Gets salt into my "I hate eating salt" horse
My gelding has never liked to eat salt - hates it. I like to use extra salt in the winter to keep him drinking when the weather gets cold - but no matter how slowly I would go 'upping' the salt in his feed - he would catch on and turn his nose up at it - or dump his feed pan over to try to get some of it off. I tried a sample of these and he snarfed them down - no problem - so I ordered a bag of them to use as needed - which is more when it's colder - less when it's warmer. So far - so good. He loves them. I do wish they were a bit cheaper - mainly because part of me hates paying so much for "salt".

Unexpected Results
Giving this a try for a month of SmartPaks was my intent, and to get my Mustang through the first big season change going into winter. Because he finds these pellets palatable (picky boy), and he is staying well-hydrated, and because we are experiencing more very cold storms, I decided to keep him on these continuously. Easier than plain salt, too, because these do not turn to a solid mass attracting moisture in the feed room! SmartPaks are just such a good idea.

Horse loves them
My horse has been on them for a month now. With the constant large swings in temperatures in Southern California, this helps keep his water intake appropriate. I have this coupled with Smart Combo Ultra for his joints and colic care and he eats them right up. Especially with carrots !!!! Yes, I could use salt but I especially like the bio-efficacy of the Smart Pak products.

I bought this for both my OTTB mare and fjord gelding, so that I could easily provide salt and know just how much salt they're getting. My slightly fussy mare won't touch it, and my gelding, who LOVES to eat and eat anything, eats it up just fine. So, although I really like the idea of the product, it is only working for one of my horses.

Horse Would Not Eat This Supplement
I gave this product three stars because I think the idea of a salt pellet is great - IF - your horse will eat it....my horse went off of his feed after I added the smart salt pellets to it.....my Barn Owner pointed it out to me although I was already aware some feed/pellets were in the bottom of his bin all week. My horse will eat most anything but not these pellets. So I had to taste them....it's like eating pure salt. Too salty for my guy's feed....
