Confidence EQ® is a copy of the Equine Appeasing Pheromone secreted by mares as they nurse their foals. In horses, the presence of this pheromone is a signal that the environment is safe and secure, which can help reduce stress and facilitate learning. Confidence EQ is recommended for horses of all ages to help manage new or unexpected stimuli and reduce stress in situations that can commonly cause nervousness or anxiety, including: trailering, veterinarian and farrier visits, new environments and training activities. Each single-use packet contains 5mL of gel. There are 10 single-use packets per box.

How to apply Confidence EQ to horsesConfidence EQ® is a copy of the Equine Appeasing Pheromone secreted by mares as they nurse their foals. In horses, the presence of this pheromone is a signal that the environment is safe and secure, which can help reduce stress and facilitate learning. Confidence EQ is recommended for horses of all ages to help manage new or unexpected stimuli and reduce stress in situations that can commonly cause nervousness or anxiety, including: trailering, veterinarian and farrier visits, new environments and training activities. Administer CONFIDENCE EQ® approximately 30 minutes before the stressful situation. The horse should be calm and quiet when Confidence EQ® is applied. Tear open one end of the packet and expel approximately ½ of the gel on your index finger. Apply the gel to the bottom edge of the horse’s nostril (not too deep, or in the mucosa). Apply the remainder of the gel in the packet to the other nostril using the same procedure. Repeat the application every 2 - 2.5 hours, if necessary.

Sadly this does not works
Bought this product on a whim after reading the reviews, and was really hopeful. It might help with some of the behavioral issues we were having. My 14 year-old Welsh pony who is normally very well-behaved has started rearing and crow-hopping as we call it. Nothing we do seems to really gets him to stop and we really haven’t been able to figure out his trigger other than being on showgrounds and the dreaded water truck. Being a very seasoned pony were very surprised in this behavior, especially since he’s so good everywhere else but shows. I thought we would try to see if it brought him some peace but unfortunately it did absolutely nothing. I don’t love the application of sticking it in their nose either but I was willing to do it if it helped.

This Stuff Works!
I have a QH, Lucky, that is actually very quiet but at horse shows, he can exhibit signs of anxiety. He is a people pleaser and an overachiever. I was not thinking that I needed a daily calming supplement but needed a little something for Lucky's apprehension. I was pretty skeptical about the effectiveness of a pheromone, as I have never used them before. Confidence EQ® worked fabulously. It was exactly what I was looking for. I will be continuing to use it!
It definitely takes the edge off. I have a great horse who just worries too much. I apply it in his nose while grooming him, before tacking up for a class. Confidence EQ® is easy to apply and takes the worry out of the palatability of supplements. It is worth a try for the horses who want to do well, but need their confidence built up through good experiences.
I recently took Lucky on a group trail ride. We don't trail ride much. I don't know if it was me or him that I was worried and uneasy. To deal with any apprehension he may have, about our first experience in the woods. I decided to use Confidence EQ®. Lucky settled with one application. He rode solid the entire time and did not look at a thing, including some ATVs in the woods and 2 deer that we came up upon. It is worth a try for the horses out there who want to do well, but need their confidence built up through good experiences.
I now have decided to put Confidence EQ® on ATS, shipping out with my SmartPaks every 28 days.

Works to take the edge off
I got it to introduce my excitable 19-year old QH mare with no trail experience to suburban trails (deers, road sounds, sports playground noises). It helped to take the jumpy edge off. She walked behind our trail buddy quite tensly but she didn't flip out and jumped. On trail #2 she started to prefer go first, and on the third we started getting a relaxed long neck by the end. Was she still anxious? Yes. Was she doing her jumps into the air? No.
Happy with the product. I had no difficulty applying it (I swooshed it not up the nose but in and to the side, in the wall pocket at the front of her nose - she never blew any of it out). I will get more for practicing solo trails.

Perfect Paste
I love this product because it has proven to be the only calming support that truly does take the edge off. For my personal pony Finn, we have tried all sorts of calming support supplements and pastes with limited responses. Through recommendations by fellow SmartPakers - I decided to give this product a try and I am so glad I did. Water has always been a challenge for Finn no matter how many baths he's had in his life. In the past, Finn has broken many break-away halters on the wash stall ties. I decided to test this product on his first bath of the season and I couldn't believe my eyes. He calmly stood on the ties the entire bath - I got to complete his 6-Step Bathing Routine without any protest! He even allowed me to pour a bucket of soapy water on his back and he didn't move a toe. I felt like this product allowed him to enjoy being pampered as opposed to in the past with him feeling overstimulated and overwhelmed. I have since used this for our ground training sessions and am excited to have something available for him if I ever need to trailer him because, like baths, he has a difficult time with trailering.

Horrible experience
I used this on my green horse to keep him a bit calmer on his third away from home experience (the first two were fine, he was just nervous, was hoping to take more of the edge off). Was this ever a mistake. Not only was it a mess to apply, and way too much gel for each nostril, but he was not happy with it. He trailered and tacked up fine, and then when I went to take him in to the arena (which he had been in before) he went completely stupid. Screaming, dragging me all over as I am trying to put on his bridle after lunging, won't stand for me to get on (he stands like a rock at home), I spent the entire 45 minute lesson with him circling me standing on the mounting block just trying to get him to stand long enough that he learned that was what I wanted through his freak out. I've not ever seen him act this badly.

Takes the edge off
After trying both nutrient as well as herbal-based supplements that did not work for a now 6-year-old mare that we rescued from a bad situation, I felt like we were at a total loss. While she was trying her hardest to please, you could tell that she was always feeling anxious and insecure, questioning her every movement. Despite all of the encouragement we gave her, making a big deal when she did something correct, she still would not believe in herself and relax. I decided to give Confidence EQ a try and all I can say is that I wish I started with this first. Her entire demeanor changes when we use Confidence EQ. When using Confidence EQ, she is much more relaxed and focused. We have also been practicing getting her on and off the trailer, and it has been a much easier process now that we have been using this for her for situations that may be overwhelming for her and farrier visits have been more peaceful when using this product. I thought that she would have an issue with me applying the gel to her nose, but she does not seem to mind it all. This product has allowed us to take a big step forward in her training process, and I am excited to see where it takes us! I highly recommend this product for when traditional calming supplements don't seem to do the trick or if you are looking to take the edge off your horse on an as-needed basis such as trailering, farrier visits or introducing your horse to new training or environments.

My gelding had a scary experience several months ago, and we’ve been looking for ways to manage his anxiety while he reacclimatizes. This product seemed ideal. It produced no effect — not even a slight calming — and the application method would be a major issue for sensitive horses (the amount of product ti be administered is substantial. I was honestly amazed my gelding did not blow it out immediately).

It seems to work!
I have used the Confidence EQ on two separate occasions with my tense OTTB. Both times she seemed to be more at ease in a new competition environment and performed quite well. I only used two packets each time. One before leaving home and one just before riding her. About 2 hrs apart.

Didn't Work For Me
I had difficulty selecting a star rating for this product. The reason Confidence EQ didn't work for me had nothing to do with the product. My horse didn't like the feel of the ointment inside her nostrils, so she promptly blew it out. The product never had a chance to work.

My gentle, well trained mare had become anxious when her heat cycles took over her normally good mind, and was distracted, and screamed like a weaning for her barn mates. When I rubbed Confidence EQ on her nostrils, within seconds she took a deep breath, her eye softened, and we had a positive day. Not a cure-all for separation anxiety, but it allowed me to get her to focus on me.
