For proper use, the curb strap should rest high on the jaw and the noseband should be centered a few inches above the break of the nose. Adjust the curb strap as necessary: snug to work more off of nose and curb pressure (great for starting young horses or as correction) or less snug (for a more experienced horse). Be careful your curb strap is not too tight to prevent your horse a release from pressure. Check your curb strap regularly as it and the noseband will stretch and subsequently loosen with time. For custom fit, the rawhide noseband can be softened in warm water and properly contoured to the horse’s nose.
