Overview

Why We Love This

The Myler Bitting System is a graduated system, meaning that as your horse learns and progresses through his training, you will change the way you communicate with him by re-bitting him periodically. Each Myler Bit is designed to use select pressure points for the best communication for that Level.

Myler Level 2 3-Ring Combo Bit is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 23.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love Myler, Great Bit, didn't work for my needs I love Myler bits. Or rather, my horse loves them and I had high hopes for hunting with this bit. I bought it because my horse tosses his head constantly and pulls on me unless he's leading the hunt field and able to go at the pace he wants (a gallop). He worked great in the arena when testing this bit but when we went hunting, he managed to run away with me... Next I'm going to try a Waterford with a running martingale. PS- he had a full dental, saddle reflocked/refitted, and chiropractic work and does not have any obvious pain issues.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Our most versatile bit ever We have been using these style Myler bits for 20 years and nothing else compares. I usually have my reins in the middle ring. Occasionally will use lowest ring if I may feel the need for a bit more leverage, but rarely. I also use the top ring as a snaffle on a regular basis. That position offers just a tad more control, with the noseband/curb connection. So it actually offers the flexibility of using only one bit from starting a young one to more advanced horses. My wife prefers the 2 ring combination. I like the 3 ring for the additional, minimal however, weight. We both compete in 85-90 barrel race events annually.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So far so good I was a bit hesitant to purchase this bit but I have a very young horse and a snaffle isn’t really working for him (he is not very responsive). As he rides ok in a rope halter I decided to try this bit and am very satisfied so far, seems to be what my horse needs at his early stage of training. I did not like the small string that needs to be somehow connected to the browband, I am not sure how it should be attached there but will figure it out.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Effective bit. Questionable quality of metal. I bought this bit several months ago for my friesian cross gelding who sometimes likes to spook and bolt. (Not fun for me! He's a big guy!) The nose pressure action of this bit allows for a lot of control without hanging on the horse's mouth. This bit must have magical powers because my horse has stopped offering to spook at all with it! I suspect he feels more relaxed with it because of how the pressure gets applied to his nose first. Unfortunately after several months the bit became very rusty. I'm pretty disappointed in the bit metal. I'm thinking about sending it back.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for Horses who feel Claustrophobic I borrowed this from my trainer and loved it so much I bought my own. My horse has a big fear of containment. This Myler bit helps encourage the horse to keep their head lower and engage her hind end without out all those awful draw reins/side reins etc (that never work anyway). She responds so well in it. It looks like a harsh piece of hardware but it's really nothing like that. It is soft on her mouth and gentle in it's encouragement to get her to frame. I would prefer that the curb piece with the buckle be made of leather and not the synthetic material it is made of. It's better for their skin and with the cost of this it should at least have leather on that part instead.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My horse loves it! My horse relaxes right into her gait with this bit. She appears to be very comfortable and responsive.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Great Transition Bit I have been researching Myler Bits and decided on the 04. I was interested in the 3 Ring Combo but reluctant due to the cost. It has been worth every penny and wish I had bought this bit sooner. I initially bought the 5inch mouth but upon fitting on my AQHA mare was concerned of pinching at the lips. SmartPak has amazing customer service and had the bit exchanged in a jiffy. The 51/2 inch fits wonderfully. When I initially bridled my mare she was very tight and worried. Within in a few minutes I had the adjustments made she had completely relaxed and seems comfortable and happy. I had been riding her in a egg butt snaffle w/ copper inlay and had been unhappy with how she was going, she was stiff and did not want to bend. I backed her into a soft rope hackamore to get her bending and was ready to move up. The 3 Ring Combo Bit has been the perfect transition from the rope hackamore to moving into a bit. My mare is starting to understand bending and bit pressure and is staying relaxed and confident. A side note: The 51/2 inch mouth has a larger nose rope and I had to add holes to the biothane curb. A leather hole punch and a hot nail got the job done.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Effective Tool I bought this to retrain my 7 year old OTTB. He's extremely willing to work but when he feels good, he'll lean really heavy on the bit. And when he gets tired, he'll snatch me out of my saddle rooting. I was using a lot of ground and hind end work to try to get him up, but it didn't always click with him. After having a c-section, I couldn't let him drag me around anymore (I just don't have the muscles). This bit lifts him up like an elevator but is very gentle on his mouth because he responds to the nose pressure first. I'm able to maintain a steady, soft contact after two rides. I plan to but him back in his loose ring lozenge after a month or so. Expensive, but worth the price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Effective for difficult OTTB One month of use has enabled me to teach my eager OTTB how to stop without punishing his mouth. TBs trained for racing are taught to take the bit and run; obviously for a new career as a dressage prospect, control is important. This bit, while it looks huge and complicated and harsh, is anything but! The nose and poll pressure signal the horse your instruction before touching the mouth, allowing your seat, legs, then reins to do their jobs. So I have been able to retrain my OTTB and preserve (even improve) the sensitivity of his mouth, his suppleness, and our communication. The Myler website and YouTube have very good instructional videos on the proper use of the bit and how to fit it... A must because it's part of a training system. It is eventing legal, but not dressage competition legal. Would also be a great bit for new riders or riders who need to work on their softness in their hands.
