Council consisting of four leading equine practitioners. With a long standing commitment to equine health, SmartPak intends
to use this council to help the company stay on top of the latest research, nutritional products and horse health issues,
while helping to promote increased involvement of veterinarians in the nutritional management of horses.

Members of the new Council include Dr. Mark Baus, Fairfield Equine Associates, Newtown, CT; Dr. Mary Brennan, Alternative Veterinary Services, Blairsville, GA; Dr. Eleanor Kellon, Equine Nutritional Solutions, Ephrata, PA; and Dr. Jay Merriam, Massachusetts Equine Clinic, Uxbridge, MA.

Council members are well-known in the horse owner and veterinary communities for their unique contributions.
As the managing partner of the largest, most sophisticated privately owned equine hospital on the East Coast, Dr. Baus is a frequent contributor and lecturer on practice management. He has a special interest in lameness, in particular foot-related problems, especially laminitis. In addition to providing top-notch care to the A-Circuit, he has enjoyed showing horses and fox hunting. Dr. Baus currently volunteers for several area programs, including Pegasus therapeutic riding center.
A frequent contributor and lecturer, Dr. Brennan is also the author of two holistic care books. She practices holistic veterinary medicine on horses, dogs and cats, and has worked with individuals competing in the Olympics, thoroughbreds racing in the Breeders?Cup, barrel racers, ropers, endurance horses and halter horses. She enjoys competing in dressage.
Dr. Kellon is the author of the popular book "Equine Supplements and Nutraceuticals, A Guide to Peak Health and Performance Through Nutrition". She has written a number of other books as well as scientific articles and is the veterinary editor and a contributing author to "Horse Journal". Dr. Kellon also runs the almost 5000-member Yahoo group Equine Cushing’s and Laminitis. She and her husband breed, raise, train and race standardbreds.
In addition to his full-service, multi-veterinarian medical and surgical practice, Dr. Merriam has been an active member of organized veterinary medicine, serving as president of the Massachusetts Veterinary Medical Association, as well as on numerous committees for the American Association of Equine Practitioners. Dr. Merriam is a member of the Bureau of Land Management’s Wild Horse and Burro Advisory Board and founder of Project Samana, a volunteer veterinary clinic in the Dominican Republic.
