Himalayan Salt Licks

Hilton Herbs
- Item #14870

Mini (1.63lbs), Small (2.2lbs), Medium (6.6lbs) or Block (4.4lbs, 2"x4"x8")

**Small and Medium include a rope. Mini is pre-drilled with a hole but does not come with a rope. 4.4lb Block does not come with a rope and fits in most standard salt block holders.

A 550 million year old source of minerals and trace elements for your horse or pony. Mined from the vast and ancient Himalayan mountains, transported down steep passes on the backs of Yaks, and providing the mountain people with one of their main sources of income, these salt licks must be the purest form of salt available.

The distinctive rose pink color comes from the salts’ high mineral content, such as iron, potassium and magnesium, which are all vital for maintaining health. Mass produced salt licks are produced using salt with minerals added in the manufacturing process. That is not the case with Himalayan Salt where the minerals are naturally found within the salt.

Himalayan rock salt licks are literally 'rock hard’, this means that horses and ponies are unable to bite chunks off the block, a problem that can occur with the softer ’pressed’ salt licks. These licks are also much more weather resistant, which means they can be safely left outside in the field for horse to 'self dose’. Our experience has shown that horses do prefer these to other salt licks.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love them but NOT weather resistant I have a variety of sizes and even my picky-est loves them. Since they are harder my mare cant chew off chunks and also they last much longer then white salt blocks. To me it is worth the extra few bucks. A medium lasts at least 8 months per horse. Where as I go through at least one white block a month per horse. THOUGH, I wanted to put one out in a covered paddock for summer to avoid dehydration since it is advertised in one of the videos as weather resistant. I put a medium out and just from one nights rain it almost melted all the way through the to the rope. I would say half of the salt is gone. And it was under cover so it was not getting direct rain. I would not recommend it in turn out unless it is under complete shelter!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Himalayan Salt Lick I have purchased this item several times. My horse loves them. I like that it hangs and I can easily see how much he uses it. Also, like that it isn't sitting on the ground where he poops and the bottom gets dirty.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from the horses far prefer these to blocks I buy these intermittently. whenever I buy them/ horses have not had them for a while they go wild over them....will quickly go through 2 whole blocks....then they hit the point they will only occasionally lick at them as a maintenance thing. They are pricey and we have a lot of horses so can potentially go through a lot of I tend to buy them at the most stressful times of year: summer heat and cold when I want them drinking/ most likely to dehydrate.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best salt like to buy! This is the only salt lick my horses will actually use. None of the horses I have had have ever touched any of the other mineral blocks/ salt licks out there. This is the only salt lick I would spend money on.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from My horse doesn't seen particularly interested in it, but otherwise it is fine. Kind of challenging to hang, but is easily adaptable to any kind of situation with a little bailing twine. Good alternative to loose salt or salt blocks.
