Trophy Tails Hunter Tail Extensions are made from 100% natural un-dyed horsehair taken from LIVE horses. Only live horses that are well cared for have the glossy healthy hair that we feel will blend with your horse’s beautiful healthy tail. One pound tails come standard 38 inches long and half pound tails come standard 37 inches long. This is typically much longer than is required on most horses, but you are given the most hair for your money, knowing that you can trim down to a PERFECT fit. Perfect match!!
The mixed tail is PERFECT for our hard to match chestnut! Thanks to smart pak customer service for the help selecting a color. Our braider loved working with this tail and it is excellent quality at a great price. Perfect length and weight for our 15.3 gelding. His tail is dark in the center and so hard to match!

Gorgeous!
This tail is gorgeous! I have a 16.2 h chestnut gelding and used the 1 lb medium sorrel. He didn’t even seem to notice he was wearing it and it looks so real! Great purchase. Haven’t had it long enough to review its longevity but so far 5 stars!

Black Tail is not Jet Black
I was really disappointed when I received this tail. I ordered black thinking it would be a true jet black tail. The black tail is a natural black tail. It’s lighter than a jet black with other shades of hair in it. If you need a true jet black tail don’t order this tail!!

At first seemed like a good idea
I was hoping to gain some style points in my future shows. This appeared be to be a short cut to success. Shortly after installing the tail, my horse appeared somewhat whoreish. I tried to overlook it, but even my mom thought it was ghetto. Happier with my horse as god made her.

Exactly What I Wanted!
My thoroughbred has a typical TB tail that is thin and shorter, and once it is braided I can only describe it as looking like a giraffe tail (yes, it's awful). So for finals this year, I decided that I wanted to spiff him up a little and give the tail a little more volume. I have never used a fake tail before so I wasn't sure about the weighting, especially since my horse didn't have much original tail to braid it into and is extra sensitive. I ended up purchasing both the 1/2 lb and the 1 lb sizes to be on the safe side with the intention of returning whichever one didn't work out.
First of all, let me compliment the speed of arrival. It took less than a week to receive both of the tails AND the tail bag I ordered with it. I got it shipped right to my barn and immediately went out there when I got shipping confirmation that it arrived. For my purposes, the 1/2 lb tail was PLENTY. I loved how soft it was and how it filled out his tail in a very natural way and blended in perfectly. I didn't even have to cut it because my horse is on the taller side at 16.2hh so it hit just at the right spot. It was also light enough that he wasn't constantly swishing his tail trying to get away from the weight of it. It has a very secure fabric loop that you use to braid it in, and I liked it much better than some of the tails that have that knob thing that all of the hair comes out of. It just seemed to make it more seamless.
The 1 lb tail was beautiful as well, but it looked like it was more of a western pleasure tail. Much thicker and heavier, but still had the same nice quality of the 1/2 lb. It would have definitely looked like a fake on my guy, and I don't think he would have liked the weight, but like I said, I believe it would be acceptable in the pleasure world. I was able to return this with no problems.
There really is no "bad" part of this product, but I feel I should also mention some possible downsides. I don't believe this is a tail that will be able to withstand frequent uses. After the weekend of using it, I could definitely tell that it was starting to get tangled and more brittle. My tail braider did recommend using either fabric softener or human hair conditioner to keep it conditioned and soft because fake tails dry out very quickly so this is definitely a product you will have to keep maintained constantly if you want it to last. However, the braider did mention that a custom tail is obviously the way to go to get the best quality and fit for your horse. This tail is more of a temporary or last minute fix (which is what I did) or for someone more on a budget. Although the color match worked out perfectly for me, and would work for others who have common tail colors, those who have horses with more specific colors probably will not be able to match their tail to the limited color selection Trophy Tails has.
I know this has been a long review but I had a hard time finding a tail for my guy because there were really no detailed reviews of tails I found (and definitely not any picture examples) so I really just had to take a leap of faith but I'm glad I did with this brand, and I wanted to let others know! I love it!
In summary:

Cons:
- may not be suitable for long time use
- does not come with a tail bag (not a huge deal - I also bought a tail bag from
SmartPak that shipped with the tails and was a great quality for low cost)
- may not be long enough for taller horses
- does not offer many options for weight and color

Great A Circuit Tail on a Budget
You get what you pay for, and I feel like this rings true for this tail. It’s beautiful, color matched my horse wonderfully, however, it falls apart very quickly!! only had it a year, and will probably gave to replace it soon. I have taken good care of it, but still the hairs are falling out and sticking out random directions. Over all, for the price it is a great tail on a budget but if you show very often and it gets a lot of use it won’t hold up very well.

Perfect Tail Extention
I had priced real horse hair tails and this one was half the price so I thought I would try it. When it arrived the color matched exactly and the quality was exceptional.

VERY NICE
I loved it right out of the bag. I needed a bigger tail for my larger horse and this is perfect! My horse looks horse show ready for this fall, we will knock the other pon's out of the park with this one.
