Am I missing something??
Leather and hardware are really nice, in fact nicer than what came with the original halter. My only question is it seems really short. Wondering if I am doing something wrong? The original strap seemed much longer.

Good replacement
I purchased this when my horse broke the safety on his Kensington halter. Seemed fine, was thicker than the one that came with the halter but everything fit. Less than a month later, it looked like he broke it again, but then found out that half of the screw that holds this together had fallen out instead. Because it is very thick, I had a lot of difficult getting everything to line up and stay put long enough to really make assembly easy. The leather is also quite stiff. On the second replacement, I spent several minutes just supplying this, and still needed assistance to hold the pieces together to screw on tightly to the halter. Over all, I would say its great to have handy, does its job, just watch how tightly you assemble, and maybe worked on supplying them over time if you keep a stash of them.

Lifesaver For Filly Hard on Halters!
My filly is really hard on halters and I think I have gone through more with her these last few months than with all my previous horses combined! This replacement leather safety release was really easy to use and holds up great. My one criticism is that it is just a fraction short, so it is a bit of finger gymnastics getting it set up on the halter to begin with.

Proof is in the pudding
Not sure yet. The original piece did its job, I suppose, and broke promptly when 5 year old toddler horse was inadvertently turned out with it on. Replacement seems very flimsy. So far it has been fine with no more turnouts. We shall see.

Great Repair Piece
I have a raggedy halter that is easy for the barn staff to take on and off. Unfortunately after several years of hanging outside, the original leather piece dry rotted. So glad I could get replacements. This leather is sturdy and should last just as long. Easy to put on even though the leather was new.

Effective safety device
I like this type of breakaway halter "fuse" better than the crown piece type. If they break you can generally just punch another hole and reuse them! You can also use them to make a halter that is not quite long enough a little little longer by replacing original buckle straps with these.

Awesome & just want I needed!
The breakaway broke on Levi's halter and instead of needing to buy a new halter, I just needed to replace the breakaway piece. Though it was a little shorter than the one it was replacing, it worked just fine and has held up perfect! I bought an extra to have a round as back up and one to cut a halter I love to turn it into a breakaway, so we can start using it on him. As always, SmartPak's shipping was super quick and the item was perfect!

Very sturdy and simple
I bought this a few weeks ago and it's held up really nicely. My horse seem to break safety release straps like string. However, these seem very sturdy and he hasn't broken it yet. Plus, you can make any halter a break-away halter with these. I will only be buying them from Smartpak from now on.

Short, but good function
Good safety function. I bought it to fit Kensington full size break-away halter for my Hanoverian mare. It makes the halter too short. (Nose band sits too high up). I loosened poll strap to last hole in able to use it.

I use these "fuses" to convert all my nylon halters to break-aways. The leather is not too strong, not too weak, the screws stay put.

Works great!

great piece of leather
purchased to change a nylon halter to a breakaway halter.. wanted a different halter than the typical "breakaway" because wanted a nylon halter with more adjustablity, but halter I choose didnt have a breakaway option so purchased this and cut away the nylon piece that holds the buckle and used this.

Simplicity!
I bought this fuse to make a regular halter into a break away. The fuse is a little shorter than others that came pre-installed on my store-bought break-aways but this isn't a concern since the halter is for a horse with a petite head. Good quality, chicago screw seems to be tight and unlikely to unscrew itself. Nice, cheap way to "baby-proof" a halter!

Great value
