The Mattes Correction Pad system is ideal for horses that are either out of shape/from or returning from an injury, where incremental correction may be needed as the horse’s back and shoulders gain muscle tone. It is also good for one-sided horses or as a rear or front riser. Unique design of the Mattes Correction Pad incorporates four pockets along the spine - two front pockets and two rear pockets. Shims (12 included) fit into these pockets for a completely custom fit. You can shim the pad in one pocket, or in all four pockets, depending on the need of each particular horse. As the horse gains muscle you can eliminate the shims one by one to give him room to muscle up into the saddle. This half pad has a heavy-duty outer cotton quilt, with the patented Mattes stitching pattern.
Melp is specially formulated and contains regreasing properties ideal for sheepskin products, washable leather and wool. Highly recommended for extending the life and quality of Mattes sheepskin products.

Best halfpad
Best half pad ever. Great quality and shims make it convenient to alter saddle fit when needed. A size medium easily suits a 17.5” jump saddle.

Gets the job done!
I had a recent issue with my dressage saddle and I've been using this pad and shimming the rear section. I needed about one inch in the back, but couldn't use a riser as it would squish the withers. I originally got the Mattes pad but the sheepskin was too thick and gave me the same problem as the riser pad. I was able to get three 1/4" shims in on each side but required help from the bf because it was so difficult to get the third one in. I think I can attempt to put the fourth in now that some time has passed. A seam on the quilting has already come undone but because it is back stitched in that area, nothing has fallen apart yet.
This is a great temporary option until I can get the fitter to fix the problem!
My horse moves well when we use the pad and since I've gotten it, I've ridden in it everyday.

I like this half pad because it has 4 big pockets for fitting your shims into- makes it easy to get the perfect saddle adjustment.

Really nice but did not look right
Liked but did not look right and someone showed me a different type so I did return it and SmartPak recieved it on January 24th but I have not gotten a refund yet.

Great quality, happy horse
I pulled it out of it's bag and immediately wanted a large one to sleep on! Dense, soft support under the saddle. I have been using for weeks and it hasn't been crushed or stained. Fits like a dream under the saddle and my horse seems very happy with it.

So happy I found it
I bought this about three years ago for some reason I can't remember, after about two months of using it I put it in my extra trunk and forgot about it. Two weeks ago I bought a new horse and was looking through my trunks to see what I had that would fit her and bring down the amount I had to spend on new tack. I found this stuffed at the bottom of my trunk in its bag perfectly clean. I took it out and decided "well I have it, might as well use it." I LOVE IT. It makes my horse so much more comfy and my new mare loves jumping in it. We use it every time we ride! The sheep skin is so soft and I washed it (by accident), and it still looks brand new! worth every penny.

Amazing pad
I purchased this pad when my mare's body changed and needed a pad with shims. It is amazing. This pad has made her more supple, relaxed through the back, and more willing to work. I have an even better horse than I thought possible from just a pad. Despite the price this pad is worth every penny.

Incredible Pad
I had waited forever to purchase this pad, trying other less expensive ones. I should have saved my money and started with the Mattes Pad. It is like riding on a pillow, and helps to keep me up in position on my horse who has a bit of a slope in his back. I can't attest to the durability because I haven't had it long, but my friend has had hers for quite a while and its still in beautiful shape. LOVE this pad!
