Winter Weight Breeches 3.9 5 21 23
Excellent! In my hunt for winter breeches I settled for these and a pair of on sale Mt Horse, and these are by far the better pair. As others have said, these fit very similar to Trophy Hunters by Tailored Sportsman which is my go to breech for best fit and true to my size with TS. These are thicker but not in any way so thick you even know these are insulated breeches and they are softly felted inside with a nice dirt repelling outer fabric. They have a bit of a swishy sound but not bothersome to me at all. I do believe the knee patches are real suede leather and if not, they are the best quality faux I have seen; much thicker than TS and other knee patches. These have the classic over the knee seam which I like, and are slightly lower rise. If I was to be picky about anything it would be that there isn't a belt loop at the center back cause my belt rides up above the waist band because of that. Otherwise, this is a very top quality breech and worth the higher price. Oh, by the way, the navy blue color is really more of a muted blue grey, not a rich deep navy at all. If they had other colors than tan, I would definitely order another pair. January 21, 2013
sooooo comfortable These are so comfortable and such a better fit and look than any of the cheap (or expensive) pull on and bulky winter pants that one can usually find. Yes they run a bit short but the fit and the flattering cut is worth the adjustment, especially when Smartpak lets you return for no cost! Wish they weren't dry clean only. November 18, 2012
thank god... ... I found a pair of winter weight riding pants that are just that: winter weight. they are almost just like my Trophy Hunter's which is why i love them, the first time I put them on I knew I'd never wear my pocketless yucky winter tights again. I a 5'1", these are the perfect length, and even tailored sportsman could learn a thing or two from the way these pants velcro at the bottom. Only downside is the fit around the knee is oddly tight, all in all I can for sure live with it. love the blue color too. A+ February 27, 2012
yuck I was excited to try these breeches for winter but they were just not what I was hoping for. I ordered the beige and they arrived a very odd material. Very slickery and with a sateen sheen. I think I would be embarassed to wear them they were so shiney. I know others have said not but I feel the shine on them is very obvious and not subtle. They also made a loud swishing sound where the shiney fabric rubs against the lining and I think they would be slippery in the saddle. They were slippery just to sit down on a chair in. Also the fit was terrible. I am fairly tall and they were short to the point of looking like a childs breech. I cannot believe these are $150 breeches. I returned. First off - they were short to the point where I think most of my calves would be covered in sock and not breech - but I also think I would prefer to do long johns under breeches based on looks. Tailored for very short person These breeches have a nice look, the fabric has a little bit of a sheen to it but not very noticeable. I would be comfortable showing in these pants in winter conditions (if they fit). They look like they would hold up well as far as shedding dirt. I would prefer that the fabric had more stretch for comfort. These breeches indeed fit like they are custom made--for someone else--a VERY short person. I'm guessing that other reviewers found the calves to fit so tight because the part that ends up around the top of the calf was probably intended to fit around the ankle of the 4'8" person these breeches were tailored for. I'm 5'8" with skinny calves and there was just no hope for these pants on me. November 27, 2011
GREAT WINTER BREECH!! VERY happy with this purchase. FIT: Although it sounds like other customers had difficulty with sizing, I found these to be very true to size. That is to say, I ordered the size I wear in a Tailored Sportsman side-zip and the fit was identical. I've worn them both under paddock boots/half chaps and under my tall boots, the fit is fine in both, same as other breeches. FUNCTION: The breeches provide warmth and block wind as promised. They're the warmest breeches I own and they still feel like you're wearing BREECHES, not tights or snow pants. They do NOT interfere with or affect my ride and they DO make winter riding more tolerable. LOOK: They're not bulky like you might expect and they don't look like you're wearing big dorky snow pants or anything. In fact, no one has a clue I'm wearing "winter breeches" unless I tell them. They are pretty much a winterized TS breech. Same cut, knee patch, over the knee seam, pockets, ankle closure etc. I bought blue because I prefer to school in colors that don't show dirt as much, but I'm sure the tan would look fine if you're doing a winterschooling show or clinic. QUALITY/VALUE: Well worth the price. They are the same price as the TS I buy to school in the rest of the year and hold up even better to washing. I am going into my third winter with my first pair and there are no signs of wear. The ONLY dislike I've ever heard about these is the very subtle "swish" noise you can sometimes hear due to the wind-blocking, hay-shedding fabric. To me, the warmth is WAY worth 1 out of 10 people asking "what is that sound?" November 21, 2011

To Clip or Not to Clip I've heard that body clipping in the spring is "too late" because you're clipping over the newly growing in coat... What do you think? What's the best body clipping schedule? - Jessica N., Charlotte, VT
