To all the Good People at SmartPak:
Who would have thought that at the age of 49 and after a 17+ year break from equine ownership, I would be a horse owner again! Class Always Shows a/k/a Valentino or Valie, a 6 year old Thoroughbred, came into my life after his career as a race horse ended! However, because of the gap between my last horse and my new guy and especially because I never thought I would be a horse owner again, all equestrian related apparel and tack had been sold many years ago. Moreover, I barely remembered the vast array of knowledge one must possess as an owner/rider and frankly, I began to wonder how I would fare in this role again.
By chance, I happened upon a SmartPak catalog that had been left in, of all places, a Dentist's Office and it was then that my revived venture into what's now commonly known as "re-rider" status, began to take shape! Believe it or not, the catalog, its very descriptive item details and the vivid color photos helped to motivate my brain into overdrive as I slowly began to remember much of my previous equine knowledge! Of course, the purchases began and as a result of SmartPak's very patient customer service people, both online and in the store, I was able to make very good apparel and tack choices and at extremely reasonable prices too! Well, just when I thought I was fully equipped to ride and care for my handsome, safe and affectionate boy, I discovered that he wasn't gaining the weight I was hoping he would and was beginning to show signs of discomfort.

Since a Vet's job is to encourage testing and for my guy that would have involved an invasive scoping procedure and medications that were going to cost well over $1,000.00 per month, I decided to give SmartPak's supplements a chance for a period of 30 days. I promised myself that, if, per chance, this supplement regiment should fail that I would immediately have him hospitalized, scoped and whatever else was needed to help my guy return to his normal, happy and healthy self once again.
I began with several months of Neigh-Lox, a wonderful treatment for ulcer issues and after seeing a healthier appetite appear and some weight gain, I chose to substitute that for the liquid Pro CMC, also for Ulcer issues but with a taste he really loved and then I added Digest-It to ease any digestive problems and before I knew it, he showed great improvement and gained more weight than I ever thought possible! Also, he was noticeably more comfortable and his incredible attitude returned, "Yup, my boy was healthy and in good spirits again!".
Lastly, I would be remiss in my responsibility as a horse owner if I didn't take the time to write to the good people at SmartPak; so, from Valie and I to all of you, here's a big ol' "Thank You"!

"At this point, since he’s only been under saddle off the track for about 7 months, we are just working on learning basics and seeing what we both enjoy doing the most. No one at the barn can believe he is a five year old Thoroughbred, because he is so sane and quiet and kind. Just yesterday, he came up to me from far across his field when he saw me drive up. Seeing my horse, the one I’ve dreamed about for 36 years, made me laugh and smile, because that little girl inside of me has finally gotten her horse! Presently, Danny is on Farrier's Formula Concentrate , Probiotic and Missing Link. His coat is starting to glow (if he’d stop rolling in the mud!), his feet are growing out the cracks that he came with, and his asymmetry that most of the OTTBs come off the track with is starting to resolve. He wasn't cut out for a career as a racehorse, but he is thriving in his current career as an eventer. "Blizzard came into my life in July of 2003. One day, when I went out to see my other horse, I saw this poor, dejected little Paint Horse standing all by himself in the corner of the pasture. He was 300 pounds underweight. Just a skeleton held together by rainrot. He had cracks in his hooves that were half an inch wide all the way to his coronet band. He had warts and ringworm all over his face, and had a hole in his withers that went down to the bone. It was severely infected. The look in his eyes said 'just let me die already'. Nobody had taken care of him for a long time. Everyone said there was no hope for him. I thought differently. Something clicked when I reached out to touch him. He nickered at me. Ears pricked, he streched his nose out to take in my scent. Over the weeks, his eyes began to shine, as the rainrot scabs fell off, a beautiful red dun sabino coat was revealed. His ribs weren't as noticeable anymore. Slowly he became a majestic animal. When he was sound and healthy again, I started him under saddle. He was amazing, never offered to buck or rear."

"We were great partners, he knew what I wanted before I asked. Sadly, our partnership was cut short when he started moving unsoundly again. I had radiographs done on his hooves and they showed that over time his front right coffin bone had rotated down (from the hoof trauma caused by the cracks), almost piercing the sole. He would require expensive shoeing and supplements to remain sound enough to live in a pasture. With the help of SmartPak, which supplied BiotinPlus, I am able to ride my horse again! "This is my horse "Baby", which is a nickname, as he was four and a half months old when we adopted him. His real name is Frank Sinatra. Baby is a PMU, and he was rescued by New York Horse Rescue, (the most wonderful people in the world)! He is from a ranch that makes the drug Premarin, an estrogen for hot flashes. This drug is made from pregnant mares' urine, and my Baby and many others are the unwanted by-products of this industry. By the way there are alternatives to Premarin, and in fact I take one, the name is Cenestin, a plant derived alternative. In a routine blood test Baby was found to be deficient in Vitamin E & Selenium - looking online I found SmartPak. We have been using SmartPak for four years now and the ease to order and the great people that work there make it very easy to use the SmartPak system. Also the packaging is very easy to use, no more measuring and putting in baggies. Just look at him in this picture and you will see how healthy he is, in part due to SmartPak.
