Product Description:
Clarity Contains:
Coltsfoot leaves (Tussilago farfara) - Known historically as the “cough plant”, this is a bitter-sweet expectorant herb with a soothing effect. It can have anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic and anti-catarrhal (helps with inflammation of mucous membranes, especially of the respiratory tract) properties and can be useful for respiratory tract disorders, particularly when coughing is present.
Elder flowers (Sambucas nigra) – These have been used throughout history for upper respiratory tract infections and are widely reported to be beneficial for colds. Elder is a pungent, cooling herb that can have anti-catarrhal and anti-inflammatory effects, making it useful for respiratory tract disorders.
Liquorice root (Glycyrrhiza glabra) - This sweet, moist, soothing herb has been used medicinally for over 3,000 years. Its anti-inflammatory and expectorant properties can soothe irritated lung tissues and help to expel mucus. Liquorice root should not be fed to pregnant mares.
Garlic (Allium sativum) – A pungent herb with antimicrobial, expectorant, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. All these make it a good choice for respiratory tract disorders.
Lemon (Citrus limon) – The peel of this citrus herb is aromatic and cooling. Its anti-inflammatory properties can help to clear bronchial congestion.
Oregano (Origanum vulgare) – Traditionally used for colds and flu, this is an aromatic, warming herb. It can have a mild expectorant action. Oregano should not be fed to pregnant mares.
Sage (Salvia officinalis) – The name Salvia is from the Latin Savere, “to be in good health”. Sage is an astringent, antiseptic herb with a camphoraceous aroma, which can have anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic and expectorant effects. Sage should not be fed to pregnant mares.
Feedmark Clarity is a feed supplement containing a unique blend of seven herbs specifically selected for their beneficial effects on the horses’ respiratory system.
The horse and its respiratory system: Horses are natural athletes with a staggering ability to take in oxygen and deliver it via the lungs to the working muscles. In a healthy horse, the respiratory tract supplies all the body's tissues with oxygen and copes with the increased demand for oxygen associated with exercise.
The horse's airways are highly specialized to ensure efficient function and to protect them from environmental irritants such as dust, mould spores, pollen and pathogens including bacteria. Their defenses include a lining of tiny upwards beating hairs called cilia, a thin layer of mucus which traps particles, stopping them from traveling deep into the lungs, and specialized cells called macrophages which engulf tiny particles that have made it right down into the alveoli, deep within the lungs.
If the environmental challenge is too great or an allergy is present, these can be overwhelmed, leading to disease.
Clarity contains herbs with active constituents that help to clear excess mucus, expel irritating particles and soothe inflammation and spasms in the respiratory tract. Aiding respiratory function in this way will help to ensure good respiratory health and maintain performance.
