SmartPak Celebrates!
with a beach-themed Company Picnic

July 2007
After reaching a huge company milestone in June, SmartPak decided to celebrate with
a beach themed company picnic. SmartPak has been growing like crazy and keeping
up with that growth is always a fun challenge. So, it was time to take a break and
celebrate everyone's hard work.
Here are some pictures we think you will find entertaining along with a story about
the day written by our own Johanna Nichols from the Sales Team. Thanks Johanna!
It was a hot, humid day for an outdoor picnic, but the SmartPakers enjoyed their
well-deserved party! At 2:00pm the phones were switched and production shut down
for the day. All employees, from the Sales Team to the shipping department, headed
outside to enjoy some food, drinks, games, and fun.

First on the agenda was the business of nametags. Everyone got a nametag with a
number. Numbers were drawn as part of a raffle, occurring every 30 minutes throughout
the party. If your number was called, a prize was yours. The impressive list of
prizes included digital cameras, iPods, and gift cards! Even Ashley from the Sales
Team was able to win a prize while tending to her injured horse (her nametag was
still present!). Plus everyone received cool beach-themed party favors, so those
who didn’t luck out in the raffle were still winners.
Everyone knows a party's not complete without refreshments. Thankfully, there were
plenty of beverages to stave off the humidity and keep the party going. After a
bit of mingling and some karaoke courtesy of Herbie, the competition began!
First up was the stadium jumping contest. The person to jump the course in the fastest
time without any faults would win a prize. There were some blazing fast times along
with some on-course acrobatics (thanks to Gary, the VP of Technology).
Next was the Puissance, complete with "stone" wall. The jump got so high, we almost
ran out of room on the jump standards (almost 5 feet!). But after some tense moments
and mighty efforts, a winner was declared.
After the Puissance, the buffet was ready and it was time to eat! SmartPak treated
us to some awesome food! Lobster (we are in Massachusetts after all), BBQ chicken,
corn on the cob, and dangerously delicious brownies were all on the menu. It was
a feast enjoyed by all!
After the buffet, horseshoes were set up on the lawn, and more games were played
before the thunderstorm and downpour began. Luckily the storm passed quickly and
then it was on to Barrel racing! The turns proved tricky on the wet grass and some
more acrobatics ensued (again, thanks to Gary!), but we had some fast times and
the competition was great.
For those less athletic (or more architecturally-minded), the SmartPak tower building
contest proved to be a test of skill, creativity, and pushing the limits of the
rules! The test was to build the tallest freestanding tower with nothing but SmartPaks
and tape in 10 minutes. The winning team consisted of Jno, Michael, and Lucy. They
mimicked the Eiffel tower with their design, which towered over 6 feet tall!
Last up was the water balloon toss. The teams were quickly weeded down to a couple
finalists thanks to some slippery balloons. The unlikely duo of Charlie and Margaret
eventually held out for the win with their magic balloon that refused to pop even
through some gravity-defying tosses!
All in all it was a fun time for all, and a great way to spend an afternoon together.
Thanks to Kristen and Jen Burt for putting together such a fabulous event and thanks
again to SmartPak for their generosity!
