Herm Sprenger HO Aurigan Weymouth 5 5 1 1
My horse loves this bit! The mouthpiece is super comfortable for him. Until I saw it, I didn't understand the need for the special curb chain but now that I have it, it seems like a brilliant idea. In order to lie flat, the curb twists in one direction on the right hand side and the opposite direction on the left side, as opposed to standard curb chains which twist the same direction the whole length so will always cause the shanks to deviate slightly right, which makes the action of the mouthpiece slightly uneven. Having had fully Aurigan and fully German silver HS curb bits before, I love having the Aurigan mouthpiece with the stainless steel shanks. I like that he has the yummy metal on the mouth part but I don't like the look of gold-colored Aurigan shanks on the outside. Plus, both the Aurigan & German silver are much harder to keep looking nice- they require way more diligence in polishing than stainless steel. I do have to say I also tried this exact bit in 14 mm thickness (from another source) & my horse didn't like it- he only liked the 16mm which is the one available from SmartPak. HS bits are ridiculously expensive so I looked into buying this bit in Europe, but I didn't find it significantly cheaper on any of the European sites I normally buy from, so I stuck with SmartPak. Their customer service is the best! August 7, 2012
