Not for every horse
I started using happy mouths again and was looking for the eggbutt for a greenie to prevent slipping through the mouth and not pinching. The sides made one horse's corners sore, but it worked fine for another. In fact the horse it is working on loves it. I would rate it higher, but just want to caution that if your horse has sensitive skin, it may not be a good choice.

Didn't work for my horse
I wasn't really able to ride in this bit, because the 5" (smallest available) was too wide for my small horse's mouth (4 3/4" at most). Also, he objected to the bumps on the mouthpiece -- I don't really see what they are for, anyway -- because they apparently pressed into his upper palate. So I just tried it on him and determined that it wasn't going to work. Which is disappointing, because he is allergic to metal bits. Now I have ordered another, much more expensive, flexible plastic bit from Germany. Too bad the cheaper option didn't work! If your horse has a thick tongue or low palate, I would not consider this bit.

Good for some horses
Some horses seem to like and trust happy mouth bits while others seem to find them too big and thick for their mouths.

Love the Happy Mouths!
I've used these bits before and recently purchased the mullen mouth for my very hard mouthed gelding. He seems very accepting of it so far and hopefully will learn to trust and seek contact once again!
