Der Dau Contour II Dress Boot 4 5 2 2
Great quality - size the problem Had purchased size 11 - medium. However, boots were smaller at the angle and lower calf than expected from size chart. Lenght OK. Too tight and not room for winter socks, so had to return. Would say the style is on the narrow side. Quality clearly great. July 12, 2012
Good Alternative to Custom Boots I ordered these boots when the zipper broke on my very pricey custom Konig boots. I usually have to have custom because of my long legs and disproportionately large calves. I knew it would take a while to get the Konigs fixed and it might be a good idea to have a back-up pair. After much research, I discovered that the Der Dau company offers an extensive range of sizes "off the shelf". The boots are made of very soft leather and are quite comfortable right out of the box. I would say the foot runs a bit large but I plan to take up some space with an insert. The height and calf fit are just right. The zipper in the back is VERY sturdy and is set into sturdy elastic on either side. The elastic allows for some give, so if you have to order slightly smaller width than what you measure, they will still fit. I gave them 4 stars all around because they don't appear as sturdy as Konigs and Petries and the leather is not as stiff as I would like to see in a tall dress boot. The leather at the ankle is very soft, which makes for great comfort, but I fear it will "break" and "drop" more than I would like for dressage. We'll see. In general, this is a very nice, comfortable boot for the price and a very good alternative to a more expensive custom pair that will take months to arrive. October 12, 2011
