Amerigo Special Dressage Girth 4.6 5 8 8
Not as expected I decided to try this girth after my supposedly super comfy and contoured Nunn Finer dressage girth started rubbing behind the elbows on my admittedly tubby welsh/tb cross. He wears a 20 and I ordered the 24 (the smallest size) in the Amerigo with trepidation thinking it would be too big. It wasn't. In fact, it was too small?! The girth is tiny and fairly thin. The leather quality is good but no better than my $120 Nunn Finer girth and the "narrow" portion (my main reason for buying this girth in an attempt to give my pony some freedom behind the elbows) wasn't narrow in the right place for my guy. The elastic seems decorative rather than functional so I returned it and decided to try some other girths rather than trying this in a bigger size as I think I can get the same quality for about half the price. Love It! Great Quality and fits well. The horse was visibly more comfortable with it! February 1, 2012
Not worth it for me. I bought a used Amerigo CC Pinerolo monoflap jumping saddle about 6 months ago, and the saddle fitter recommended this girth. She did not have it in stock, so I ordered it from SmartPak - so it did her no favors to push it, but she said it was a great girth. Well, it has rubbed my horse completely raw! My gelding IS a sensitive chestnut TB, but I thought for almost $300, and with Amerigo's reputation, this might not rub him. I did order the Mattes cover made specifically for this girth in brown because the girth itself is exquisite - just rubs my guy. I do have to say the leather is absolutely beautiful and the construction is most definitely high quality - not a thread has shifted. Kind of a pain to clean with regular glycerin soap and sponge because of the elastic (which doesn't actually serve a purpose as far as I can see). Pretty disappointed because of the cost, but I'm willing to bet it could just be my overly sensitive horse. October 12, 2011
Excellent quality This is a very high quality girth. The leather is soft, and my horse was comfortable with it right off the bat. I like having the "keepers" to tuck the billet straps in, which my previous girth didn't have. I am sure that this type of girth will last a long time, and is certainly worth the price. I have a nice saddle, and this girth is a good match for it. June 8, 2010
almost perfect My horse has been 'girthy' so the search began to find her happiness. Excellent quality of materials and workmanship. The girth has cushy comfort and is stable in position and does not rotate at the buckle and girth intersection. I had been searching for a little more elasticity but the cushion has been enough for happier girthing. I will rebuy this product. December 13, 2009
Excellent girth I really love all the Amerigo products. This is another great one. The leather is butter soft. The shape is perfect for preventing rubs. This girth gets tight very easily. Highly recommended. March 18, 2009

To Clip or Not to Clip I've heard that body clipping in the spring is "too late" because you're clipping over the newly growing in coat... What do you think? What's the best body clipping schedule? - Jessica N., Charlotte, VT
