2009 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award
President and CEO Paal Gisholt received the 2009 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year® Award in the consumer category in New England. Gisholt was selected by an independent panel of judges charged with recognizing entrepreneurs who are building and leading dynamic, growing businesses. The Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year awards honor entrepreneurs who have proved exceptional in such areas as innovation, financial performance and personal commitment to their businesses and communities.
SmartPak was ranked among the Boston Globe's annual "Top Places to Work" in Massachusetts, joining the ranks of other area businesses that graced the list in 2008 including Genzyme Corp., Staples and Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Massachusetts.

Named to the list in 2005 and 2006
In 2005, SmartPak was named to the Inc. 500 list of America’s Fastest Growing Private Companies. We ranked as the 106th fastest-growing private business in America, and the sixth fastest growing Private Consumer Products Company to make the list. With a growth rate of 868 percent in three years, SmartPak achieved a recognition never before attained by a company in the equine industry. It’s the first time in the 22 years since Inc. Magazine began publishing the Inc. 500 list that an equine business was named so honored.
In 2006, SmartPak's three-year growth rate of 437 percent earned it the number 312 spot on Inc.'s list, making it the eleventh fastest growing privately held consumer products company in the country. With this second mention, SmartPak joined the ranks of Inc. 500 alumni that have graced the list multiple times, including Microsoft, Timberland, Gateway, Shutterfly and other companies that have gone on shape their respective industries.
SmartPak, the first equine company recipient, was presented with the Innovation Award from the Smaller Business Association of New England (SBANE). SBANE’s New England Innovation Awards recognizes those companies that have transformed their innovative ideas into a product or service with proven market success. A few other winners include Netezza Corporation, Aurora Imaging Technology, iRobot, and E Ink Corporation.
