Branched-Chain Amino Acids are unique in that they are the preferred amino acids used for muscular energy production, and according to research studies, play an important role in fatigue management during exercise. In addition, B.C.A.A's act as nitrogen carriers, which assist the muscles in synthesizing other aminos needed for anabolic (increasing) muscle action. Branched Chains stimulate production of insulin which allows circulating blood sugar to be taken up by the muscle cells and used as a source of energy. The insulin production also promotes amino acid uptake by the muscle. The chromium makes insulin much more effective in its job of ferrying glucose across cellular membranes. The zinc is important in the pancreas production of insulin. Vitamin B6 must be present for the system to effectively utilize the Branched Chains.

What is HMB? HMB is short for hydroxy-methyl-butyrate. HMB is thought to prevent muscle tissue breakdown, speed up muscle repair, and increase lean body mass by reducing the amount of energy derived from protein and increasing energy derived from fat. Some sources also suggest that HMB is a structural component of muscle cells that is destroyed under stress. HMB supplementation, therefore, may both prevent muscle breakdown as well as accelerate tissue repair after exercise.
