STRONGID C 2X is approved for: Prevention of Strongylus vulgaris larval infestation in horses and control of large strongyles (S. vulgaris, S. edentatus); small strongyles (adults and 4th-stage larvae) Cyathostomum spp., Cylicocyclus spp., Cylicostephanus spp., Cylicodontophorus spp., Poteriostomum spp., Triodontophorus spp.; pinworms (adults and 4th-stage larvae) Oxyuris equi; and ascarids (adults and 4th-stage larvae) Parascaris equorum. Key Features Continuous dosing of pyrantel tartrate in the gastrointestinal tract, instead of a conventional program of deworming every 60 days that leaves horses open to reinfection. Administer daily to prevent Strongylus vulgaris larval infestation in horses. Controls a variety of large strongyles, small strongyles, pinworms, and ascarids. Safe for use in pregnant mares and foals.

Instructions:

STRONGID® C 2X™ is to be administered on a continuous basis either as a top-dress or mixed in the horse’s daily grain ration at the rate of 1.2 mg pyrantel tartrate per pound of body weight daily. To achieve this dose, administer 0.5 oz of STRONGID C 2X per 250 lb of body weight. (A STRONGID® C 2X™ measuring cup is enclosed. Please note it is different in size and shape from the original STRONGID C measuring cup due to the higher concentration of STRONGID® C 2X™.) Strongid C2X should be administered for the entire period that the animal is at risk to internal parasites. Unprotected animals that have grazed may already have an established S. Vulgaris larval infestation. Before administering Strongid C2X, these animals should be treated with a therapetuc dose of a larvicidal product. Foals may be administered Strongid C2X as soon as consistent intake of graini mix is occurring. This is generally between 2 - 3 months of age. Strongid C 2X may be used in mares at any stage of pregnancy or lactation. Stallion fertility is not affected by the use of STRONGID® C 2X™. Up to 250lbs .5oz daily 250lbs - 500lbs 1oz daily 500lbs-750lbs 1.5oz daily 750lbs-1000lbs 2oz daily 1000lbs-1250lbs 2.5oz daily

Precautions:

Consult your veterinarian before using in severely debilitated animals and for assistance in the diagnosis, treatment and control of parasitism. Do not mix in feeds containing bentonite if you need to keep track of the level of pyrantel tartrate in your horse. Bentonite is a binding agent that is used in small amounts in many horse feeds and also sometimes in supplements, especially those that are pelleted. According to Pfizer (the manufacturer of the popular Strongid daily wormer) the warnings against feeding a daily wormer in conjunction with a product containing Bentonite, stem not from any contraindications or toxicities, but from the fact that Bentonite can skew the ability to analyze Pyrantel Tartrate levels (the active ingredient in daily wormers) in feeds. Bentonite will actually mask the amount of Pyrantel Tartrate in feed when Feed Mills and Graineries assay it to make sure that the levels are correct. They take samples of feed to make sure that the appropriate amount of Pyrantel Tartrate has been mixed into it and Bentonite can mask its presence. The manufacturer’s research shows that Bentonite does not have an impact on the horse’s ability to absorb Pyrantel Tartrate. If you would like more detailed information on this subject, you can feel free to contact Pfizer directly. They are the manufacturers of Strongid and are available at 1-800-366-5288. We also always suggest contacting your veterinarian before making changes to your horse’s dietary regimen. Not for use in horses intended for food.
